You have a commander-in-chief telling the American military that an American city is under "invasion and third world lawlessness...we're not going to let that happen." Truly extraordinary weaponization of the military against the President's domestic opponents.

Pathetic. ABC made it clear with the Stephanopolous settlement that they were more concerned about appeasing Trump than standing their journalists. Even if you think that Moran badly messed up, and I don't, this would never have amounted to a dismissal in an earlier era.

Really good WSJ article on ICE escalations over recent weeks including Miller's visit to ICE national HQ where he demanded Home Depot raids. www.wsj.com/us-news/prot...

Uh, why and on what basis??? Also this is illegal and a violation of the Vienna Convention

When Biden stumbled, the media was relentless

I held off on what I had planned to discuss in “The Week Ahead” tonight to try and give us some baselines for understanding what is happening in Los Angeles. And in the White House. There is a lot of territory to cover here, and it’s complicated, so bear with me. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

“Firing back”

They're not there yet! (Said in the Monty Python "I'm not dead yet!" voice) "Trump praises ‘great job’ by national guard in calming LA protests, as mayor says troops are not in the city"

Thank you, @cohen489.bsky.social, for this clear and concise overview. Here’s the @stevevladeck.bsky.social article she referenced in the video: www.stevevladeck.com/p/156-federa... This gifted @nytimes.com article also has useful details: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/07/u...

JULIETTE KAYYEM: “Active duty Marines for this, Hegseth? I mean, we were just reporting on it. There's music. The traffic is moving. Most people in L.A. probably don't even know this is going on.”

We must push @massgovernor.bsky.social to do this.

We need to push @massgovernor.bsky.social to do this.

Well look, it was nowhere near as important as Hillary’s emails or Biden’s occasional senior moment…

You should contact the Governor of California and ask him to do something about it, @governor.ca.gov.

Every person on Bluesky should know: * Every post on Bluesky is PUBLIC forever * Every post on Bluesky is archived by ICE, NSA, and many other agencies * Even if you delete a post, it’s already been captured * Judges don’t care if you were “kidding” or being ironic www.404media.co/the-200-site...

Hegseth is now threatening to send the Marines to LA to suppress protesters against ICE’s brutal assault on immigrant garment workers. Just process that: Sending in the *military* to crack down on protesters. We’re now at severe risk of martial law. That’s what they’ve wanted all along.

It is not a coincidence that ICE/DHS ramped up their terror campaign in LA a week before next week’s #NoKings protests. This was a deliberate escalation in order to provoke a strong community response, giving Trump an excuse to crackdown on protests before a nationwide day of dissent.

The problem is not that there are too many Americans protesting in the streets. The problem is that there are not enough. Not by a long shot.

Despicable action by ICE to go after an Afghan who fought besides our troops.

Good news.

Two babies have died from whooping cough in Kentucky. Neither they nor their parents had been vaccinated. The current whooping cough outbreak in the U.S. hasn’t grabbed the media spotlight as much as measles has, but it’s important to update your vaccination if you’re going to be around babies.

I fear Bhattacharya and Trump are doing irreparable damage to U.S. biomedical research 😢

As a historian of military coups (1/3 of my book #Strongmen is on that subject) this sight unsettles me...

One of the wildest things about reactionary psychology is that they seem *genuinely hurt & dismayed* when people react badly to their violent, stupid behavior.

That Democrats, even now, insist on focusing on and blaming the progressive wing of their party for Trump is exactly how we entered the Nadir a century ago. White Americans and those who wanted to politically ascend abandoned Black people and oppressed groups to reunite politically with each other.

It's the Washington Monument in the background that really takes this to next-level dystopian

Kennedy, Makary, and Bhattacharya announced on X that they are pulling recommendations for Covid vaccines. They will no longer be part of the childhood vaccination schedule, and they're no longer recommended for pregnant people. There's a process for changing recs. It's not posting a video on X.

Aside from the fact that anyone can get seriously ill from COVID, a key point they are deliberately hiding when removing access is that COVID vaccines reduce transmission. People choose to get vaccinated to protect other people. It is wrong and harmful to take that choice away.

*International students represent about 15% of all higher ed students. *They subsidize US students, so expect domestic student costs to increase *Trump complains about tariffs but he is destroying an industry where the US is a huge net exporter www.nytimes.com/2025/05/23/u...

How many people will die because of this gross negligence?

😳

Excellent piece from Prof. (& @strictscrutiny.bsky.social co-host) @kateshaw.bsky.social . The Court’s emergency docket decision on the President’s power to fire the NLRB head is one of its worst. It deserves more attention. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/25/o...

Bhattacharya said, “If it’s true that we sponsored research that caused a pandemic – and if you look at polls of the American people, that’s what most people believe, and I looked at the scientific evidence; I believe it” Reminder that there is still zero objective data that supports the “lab leak”

At the Commencement for students graduating from University of Maryland School of Law I spent some time talking with law graduates about the significance of the oath they will take when they are admitted to the bar, and its importance to upholding the rule of law. Especially now.

On this 5th anniversary of George Floyd’s brutal murder by police, I highly recommend reading and sharing these thoughts from YW Boston’s President & CEO Aba Taylor. It’s time for a reckoning of the highly performative racial reckoning that followed after Floyd’s murder. mailchi.mp/ywboston/sha...
