It's bandcamp Friday! If you have the ability to support some of your favourite musicians then you should.

Spoken word poetry over dance beats. It sounds like a middle ground between The Streets and Kae Tempest (which is a pretty solid ground to stand on). The tunes are good, but it's the witty wordplay that really hooks you in.

Some incredibly funky Brazilian samba that is sure to compel you to sway your hips. It's not an area of music that I really know much about, but I thoroughly enjoyed this trip into it.

This is the newest release from the XL records owner. It is full of chilled out electronics with moments of soul, jazz, and folk. It also features plenty of big name special guests. I quite liked his album from 2018, but I feel like this is him improving on that formula.

For this album the band are making something much closer to indietronica than their usual shoegaze sound. It still has hints towards their original style, but showcases a love of dance music as well. I feel like this has the potential to be a real grower.

An album of sad and sapphic indie rock. It has a folky edge to it, but it's never the main ingredient. It mixes plenty of sensuality in with it's background melancholy.

The former meme makes a case for full blown pop Princess resurrection with this short album. There's dance pop and hyperpop elements, and the debt to artists like Charli XCX are obvious. But this feels like the full blown transformation record after a few cocoon-like releases.

On their newest album the LA trio are giving us another great serving of alternative indie and power pop that is full of silly (but excellent) lyricism. If you want to have a good time then this is the perfect little burst of music for you. If you DON'T want to have a good time... Why? Are you ok?

This album is completely against the idea of genres. It is incredibly fun to listen to but a nightmare to review. In raw creativity it feels like They Might Be Giants, or Neutral Milk Hotel...But it doesn't really sound like either of them. I just suggest that you give this a try because it's great.

Just saw this lot live. Absolutely fantastic.

Indie pop with a dreamy kind of feeling (ironically, considering the album title). There's a strong theme of nostalgia that runs through the whole thing, especially where field recording style samples are used (like the actual home video audio on the closing track).

This is some absolute brain off eurodance fun. Don't come here if you're looking for intelligent commentary on the modern world. But if you really want to get your head rattled by some massive up tempo beats then plug it straight into your veins. Think Scooter (who even appear on one of the tracks).

This collective from the south of England are making psych rock that mixes the modern style with the full on flower power sounds of the 60's. They earn a certain amount of credibility with their name choice alone (which seems very important in psych), but they back it up with their music.

Some ambient techno. This album strikes the all important balance between being chilled out, but also intricate enough to keep you engaged.

A 5 track EP of goth pop that is full of ominous synths. It's a really fun ride (Yes. Goth can be fun) and I want to hang around in clubs that play this kind of stuff all night.

A 4 track EP of electronic noise punk from Belfast. It has a very industrial feeling to it and scratches many of my musical itches. Very much looking forward to a full length release.

Some Canadian industrial that takes a lot of cues from more modern dance music styles. It does a great job of balancing the newer and old school elements.

Some excellent ambient music left overs from his soundtrack work. The quality of the work is so high that the complete lack of theming doesn't actually take away from the end result. Beautiful and enthralling.

A big anthemic metalcore album that comes after a lengthy break from releases. They have never been one of my favourite metal bands, but they are very good at what they do and they definitely don't disappoint this time around.

This EP is the band's final release and it's another slacker indie masterwork. I'm definitely sad to see the band splitting up, but thankful for this small bonus release.

For their 3rd EP the Manchester band have made 20 minutes of improvisational post rock with wailing saxophones. It's not the release that everybody would want from them, but it definitely worked for me.

This is the 3rd album by the Dublin based post punk band and it feels like a step back towards a raw garage-y sound. I enjoy their noisier/darker side, so this is absolutely fine with me. A must listen for modern post punk fans.

Happy EBM day 2️⃣4️⃣/2️⃣

This is a really interesting mix of shoegaze and post hardcore. The ingredients make perfect sense together and the slow/heavily effects laden guitars help lift the sad vocals up even more. Definitely worth a listen.

A pop punk album that is full of energy. It has a bit of an early Paramore feel to it, and it sometimes plays things a bit too safely. It still does a great version of the genre though and I had a really good time with it.

An album of twee indie rock that managed to sound suitably modern and retro at the same time. If you have the musical equivalent of a sweet tooth then you should give this one a listen.

An ambient instrumental album that makes use of ancient instruments from Korea's past. It's both inventive and minimalist, which helps to showcase the interesting sounds of the unusual instruments.

This is an incredibly funky album that regularly evokes Glam rock, and the artier side of new romantic. They've always been an interesting act, but this time I feel like they've struck gold.

A side project from Jane Remover that mixes shoegaze with emo, but manages to keep it all sounding fresh. It helps that they are a great songwriter and producer. It's wild to me that they are only like 21(?).

A bass focused jazz album that's rounded out with drums and saxophone. Shifting between smooth, funky, freaky, and a mix of all the above. It's just solid instrumental jazz trio work.

A stripped back version of his usual progressive folk that is a deep dive into nostalgia and aging. It all feels incredibly personal and even verges of being voyeuristic at points. It's incredibly British and sometimes sounds like a folk version of an Alan Bennett monologue. I really enjoyed it.

Lacuna Coil are back with another excellent dose of gothic metal. The duel vocals are still great after all this time and they are leaning into the heavier/groovier side of the music. Well worth a listen.

For his 3rd album Bartees Strange is bringing his A game. Once again mixing alternative R&B with indie style singer songwriting. It's a mix that he has perfected by this point and I don't feel that there's anybody who's really able to touch him at it.

This is Manic Street Preachers 15th album and I'd say it's the best they've been in a decade. Still making anthemic indie pop that is angry and political, but it feels like the creative juices were flowing much more freely this time.

A big djenty chunk of progressive metal. There's complex and funky riffs, big chugging guitars, and great vocals. This one really grabbed me in a way that their earlier stuff hasn't always managed to.

This is a great blackgaze/post black metal album that plays around with the confines of the genre. It does a fantastic job of balancing the horror and the beauty. If you like screaming AND piano then this one has you covered.

Massive progressive metal that sees them in the best form they've been in for years. This is massively helped by the return of Mike Portnoy on the drums. The music is technical but very accessible (which has always been one of their strong points) and the lyrics/vocals are cheesier than a fondue.

Some contemporary folk from New Zealand. She's been releasing beautiful and contemplative music for just over a decade now and it always hits the spot.

A fantastic album of old school post punk. There's no smoke and mirrors here and the band don't hide behind production tricks or unnecessary excess. These guys don't mess about.

It's been a couple of years since the tragic early death of their front-man Ryan Karazija and they've been putting the final touches on the album that he was working on. It is the beautiful and sad electronic folk sound that they were always excellent at.

A beautiful alt pop/art pop album from France that makes excellent use of chilled out electronics and dreamy altered vocals. This is my introduction to them as an artist and I'll definitely be looking out for more from them in the future.

One of the greats of the singer-songwriter style doing a fully collaborative band album. There's more of an indie rock/post punk style in this form, but her excellent song writing shines through. An interesting change with very welcome results.

A lovely bit of post punk that captures the anger and anguish of financial insecurity. Sometimes it slows itself down to focus in a little, but it mostly moves at full speed.

For their third album the band have refined their sound again. Still mixing post punk and art rock, but this feels like their most coherent releases yet. I miss some of the wildness of the earlier work, but the quality is never lacking.
