Your assignment this week is to read a book that some “Mom for Liberty” would bring to a school board meeting and cry about.

I said, “The humans think I’m an asshole, wait till they get to know you.”

being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

New question: Can Nick Offerman narrate my life? #oscars

Can Cynthia Erivo open every Academy Awards with a song? #oscars

Do we know why the lady was weeping during the Printz Award announcements? #ALAYMA

If you say we abandon red states, you kill a lot of dear friends of mine so fuck right off with that. We don't leave gerrymandered, vulnerable, decent people behind because of a zip code, you sanctimonious dicks.

Just bought our tickets for Japan. Feels surreal.

So hey, let’s start off 2025 maybe making somebody’s life better in a small tangible way. What is a small practical thing—object, lifehack, whatever—that solved a small annoyance for you? For me, did you know you can buy clips with elastic specifically to hold the corner of your fitted sheet on?

Now that the holiday shopping season is coming to an end, indie bookstores could really really use your help. Your local independent bookstore is a treasure and a crucial part of the neighborhood. And you KNOW you need some good reading during this cold winter season as you digest all that turkey.

I am ready for 2024 to end.

Amazon might deliver 'convenience', but it can’t replicate the magic of stepping into a quiet bookstore on a rainy day, where the scent of old pages mingles with fresh coffee and every shelf holds the promise of a new adventure waiting to be discovered.

Bay Area peeps! A few local bookstores REALLY need your help right now. In the Mission, Medicine For Nightmares and Adobe were both flooded during that intense rain. Deets: missionlocal.org/2024/11/miss... Also, East Bay Booksellers is reopening after a nasty fire: www.ebbooksellers.com PLS HELP

Former Amazon worker here; do not cross this picket line. Don't do it. Don't even order from them (unless absolutely necessary). They're a disgusting company to work for and the reason for my knee problems that required years of physical therapy. Fuck Amazon. We stand with the workers! 👊🏻✨

Amazons workers across 20 countries, including the United States, are striking against what the organizing labor union calls anti-worker and anti-democratic practices.

Homes needed for dogs, cats: Wake County Animal Center slashes adoption fees The Wake County Animal Center is slashing adoption fees for dogs and cats from Dec. 1 to Dec. 22 for its "Home for the Holidays" adoption campaign.

Reminder that your favorite local indie bookstores make a lot of their yearly income during the holiday season. Go shop local today. ❤️

The holidays are officially here so please check on your introvert friends! Bring them coffee and let them infodump! Text them just to cancel some plans you never made! See if there’s a phone call you can make on their behalf! You can make a real difference this holiday season!

The fact that writers can use various combinations of 26 letters to make me care about people who never existed and then destroy me emotionally by making them suffer is the weirdest, most unfair, and wonderful of magics

Books. When buying books for gifts this holiday season, please don't buy from Amazon. Please shop at your local independent bookstore/bookseller. Ask for recommendations. If they don't have a particular book in stock, ask them to order it. Support creatives, local businesses, and your community.

You’re not violating a reading rule if you opt not to finish a book that's not resonating with you. Life is finite and we thus have a finite number of books to read. Reading shouldn’t be a chore. You needn’t feel guilty for ensuring that your time reading is spent reading things that you love.

I'm both overwhelmed and ecstatic at the number of online orders Quail Ridge Books is getting for the holidays. We make about a third of our sales in the last 3 months of the year so I'm watching our financials more than I probably should. Anyway- shop indie, shop local whenever possible.
