To be clear she DID NOT DO HATE SPEECH. But shutting down this kind of “official” speech could happen it most public spheres in Canada. It’s helpful when it’s Nazi shit, but in situations like this It fucking sucks.

This is often helpful because it means we are actually able to crack down on hate speech in a way you can’t BUT it also means the government gets to decide to some extent where to draw the line. That’s unfortunately what we see here, she did nothing wrong but it’s the governments call what counts :/

To be clear, this happened here in Canada. We don’t have a strict and supposedly unlimited right to “free speech” the way Americans do. We have “free expression” but the government put caps on that when it comes to certain types of expression (namely, hate speech).

The thing these people don’t understand is that the left already polices against violence. We are almost pathologically anti-violence, to the point where even resisting violence is frowned upon by many. The right has carte blanche to harm, while the left scolds each other for minor property damage.

I suspect if we could see a map with the protest areas plotted out, people would be shocked by how little grounds is actually being covered. Looks like a lot of actions only spans a block or so. This isn’t a mass movement of 10s or even 100s of thousands, this is a relatively small group of people.

I don’t generally agree with the Toronto star but I for one have been pretty disappointed. Funneling money into oil and military projects, inviting Mohammed bin Salman to the G7, cracking down of immigration and restricting privacy rights at the border. Feels like we got Poilievre after all!
