being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:

There is just so much cop in this story www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news...

This is some bombshell, scandelous, spy-novel-esque news in the climate space: It’s alledged that a lobbying firm representing ExxonMobil engaged in hacking and targeting 128 climate activists and/or environmental organizations involved in climate ligation to discredit those individuals/groups.

These are definitely concentration camps but they are ones thoroughly rooted in the American tradition, not the German one. The Nazi kz system did not start "innocuously" or this way. Read about wild concentration camps. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkanw...

atheist gf: can you please just be normal while my family is here christian bf: *hanging special orbs on a magic tree* are you folks washed in the soul cleansing blood of the lamb? guy who says 'hot water heater': i'm a sold car salesman soviet trent reznor: head laika hole

No. Not a disaster. Weave this into the story of you. Walk out of its ruins. Save those who still can be saved. I'm on your side.

Just screamed at my mom over the phone while crying. It was over the mass deportations. I didn’t mean to do it nor will I try to rationalize it. It was still wrong. I love my mom, which makes it hurt more that she believes the things she does. I don’t know how to feel right now.

This is what we mean when we talk about corporate greed: Starbucks gave its CEO $96 million for just 4 months of work. Meanwhile, Starbucks is refusing to offer a raise of more than 50 cents an hour to 12,000 union workers. That's unacceptable. Starbucks must end their greed.

do any americans go overseas, ride a bullet train, and think: nah, we don't need this?

the answer to this sort of insipid bullshit is always to shift focus to the politicians failing to reach those voters. the democrats could have won, laughably easily, with different tactics. they could have not sent bombs to be dropped on kids for a year, for a start. but they didn't want to change

The urge is strong. But you are stronger.

Saw “The Colors Within” last night and it was a delightful movie. Started a little slow but by the end you just fall in love with the characters and it really pops off. Especially liked the music direction they took, it was super cool. Go see it if you haven’t yet!

Someone mentioned "the English" on Tiktok and in the comments someone said "English is a language not an organisation, you don't put the in front of it" and that's how I know the Americans are back on Tiktok

before the internet you had to carry your posts around and hand them out to people

Never feel bad about reposting your stuff on here because for the first year of this website we had an entirety of 20 daily posts that we all had to share and reheat like a communal soup

You're NOT insane.

I find it rude when people use headphones on the bus or the train. Your phone has a speaker. Please share what you are listening to.

we are in good hands everyone

#Mexico: The recent executive orders on #migration from the U.S. administration leave hundreds of thousands of people along the Latin American migration corridor in even greater uncertainty, exposed to heightened risks on a route already marked by extreme violence.

I've seen a few people posting about helping out your local library. As your friendly neighborhood Library Director Man, some thoughts so that you help in, well, helpful ways. 1/?

best single member of any administration in my lifetime

Reminder: Don’t just ‘like’ posts but repost/retweet them. Let’s build a bigger community and do it as quickly as possible The more engagement you give, the more people will want to be here and accounts will grow It’s an easy way to resist the media takeover by the right

Libraries & librarians have never been more important. If we care about the future, we must make sure every school, every community, every child has access to a library & a librarian. And we have to give them all our support, so they can do their vital work, which benefits us ALL! #SaveLibraries

Here’s a quick roundup of highlights from research we published in 2024, on unequal exchange, ecosocialism, and post-capitalist transformation. As always, free PDFs are available via the link at the end of the thread. 🧵

Been on here for less then 4 hours and I gotta say I really like what you’ve all done with the place

They say no man is an island, but I know what I saw out there. Islandman is real.

copaganda is me having to see that dog cop kids movie trailer like 900 times

Don’t underestimate the impact you’re making when you choose to wear a mask. You’re protecting your health & the health of your community. You’re helping ease the burden on our healthcare system. You’re standing in solidarity with disabled people & telling the government that no one is expendable

No. This is somewhere to be. This is all you have, but it's still something. Streets and sodium lights. The sky, the world. You're still alive.

Remember that you will not get to fight evil. You will not be faced with people you *can* fight. You will be faced with bureaucracy and people who tell you they’re just doing their job. Your fight will not be good vs evil, it will be doing good vs doing nothing because it’s easier.

I just saw someone comment, "we never had blizzard warnings from the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of America sucks" and now I'm dead.
