A mishmash: Middle East stuff, development stuff, organizational dysfunction, crisis response, carbon transition dynamics, silly sports things. Mostly here to read smarter people than me.

Not knowing what the hell I'm doing. How much water, how much sun, when to plant, how to reconfigure the sprinklers, how much/what kind of mulch etc. Someone who knows what to do might need a weekend, but I'm afraid for me it would take months and in the end I'd have a bunch of dead native plants

Trump should send Stephen Miller to yell at the troops, that'll get them fired up

The arc of tyranny includes the tyrant using the military to seize power and often later includes the tyrant alienating the military and being overthrown. If we're lucky, Trump getting these in the wrong order will save us

One of my favorite moments in recent years was the Iraqi guy throwing a shoe at GW Bush followed by a zillion pieces explaining that Arabs consider shoe throwing to be an insult. Whereas when I first met my wife we immediately threw shoes at each other and I knew right away she was the one

Then one day you wake up and a guy is attempting a coup attempt on live TV and you can’t even get a trial started with four years of prep time. Media can’t call it what it is, prosecutors and judges and Senators all want someone else to do it, and a chance to protect the country gets pissed away

Trump circa 2010 or thereabouts didn't invade Iraq or torture anyone, didn't hook and kill hundreds of thousands of Americans like the Sacklers did, didn't tank the world economy in 2008 like Wall St. did. Prosecutors didn’t get any of those much bigger fish, so why would they go after Trump?

And Senate campaigns will have to fight upstream as Fox News fires up and some conservative voters on the fence will vote R in the end. An 8 point swing with catatonic leadership from Schumer and Jeffries is impressive. But there's a lot more work to be done.

10-20k confirmed in Spokane WA. So either the "tens of thousands" figure for the whole country is completely bogus... or maybe Spokane WA is the left wing center of the universe? www.spokesman.com/stories/2025...

Also several thousand each in places like Walla Walla and Wenatchee and Yakima and Kennewick. Even 300 in Moses Lake. LA is one thing but if that many people in Moses Lake are turning out, Trump's martial law fantasies are pretty much dead. There aren't enough Marines in the world.

And this part. Sloppy construction will crash planes after 10-12 years, said the expert quality manager who (apparently) committed suicide right before he was set to finish his deposition against Boeing. The plane that just crashed left the factory 11 years ago. Still a lot of unknowns, but Jesus.

@jamellebouie.net was riffing once on the hard times -> hard men -> good times -> weak men -> hard times right wing mantra, saying it’s actually true except the decadence that leads to hard times isn’t equal rights; it’s rulers who think they shouldn’t have to put in the work that comes with the job

To the university presidents who responded to protests with total panic because the protestors were making the money mad and because NYT and MAGA might pretend like they actually cared about your improperly formatted citations from 1997 8/

Special thanks to the reporters going full Watergate on Hillary’s emails or on Biden being a day older today than he was yesterday, unable to call Trump the fascist he is when it mattered, who are now *just so happy* with a full scale assault on freedom because it juices ratings 3/

I’ll be out there Saturday and I’m looking to engage in a lot of other ways. Once the barbarians have been dealt with, we’ll need a democratic rebirth and it’s very hard to see how the ninnies who stood down deserve a role in that rebirth /end
