Every Democratic Senator during this presidency: "Hmm, there's literally no upside in voting to confirm this person, and there's significant downside. Guess I'm voting to confirm."

"Hey, what if we just decided to pander to people who think food-borne illness is awesome?"

What's the...uh...light side of sports betting?

Sorry, people with AIDS. Paying for your life saving medical treatments would be colonialism so we have to stop.

Refusing to help improve people's lives, but with lefty aesthetics.

This is really a story about how much Tom Morello sucks for being willing to get on stage with Billy Corgan

Wow man, you're right. This ethnic cleansing is so audacious.

These dickbags supported Trump. They're literally getting what they demanded.

If you vote to confirm RFK I'm going to donate to every primary challenger for the rest of your career.

You can't think of any reason a charity would invest money instead of spending every penny they have? No reasons at all?
comment in response to post
Are charities not supposed to pay people?
comment in response to post
Or: 1. Actually I can afford $9, I just don't want to pay it 2. The subway is for poor people 3. I can use poor people as an excuse to get what I want

Maga has done a better job working the refs than we have.

The "No" was the only part of that that matters. Everything after that was just explaining why you think intentional, wholly unnecessary cruelty is ok as long as it tastes good.
comment in response to post
Oh you have a simpler way to stop mass killings of animals?
comment in response to post
It's pretty profoundly fucked up that you think the animal ag industry is cruel and your response to that is to tell everyone that the people who choose to opt out of the cruelly are the problem.
comment in response to post
It's actually very easy to stop, Michael. Millions of people have done it already. Enthusiastically taking part in something you acknowledge to be cruel is the problem.

Simplest thing to do is to just stop eating eggs

The only reason to write stuff like this is as rage bait. The Atlantic has long since joined the ranks of outlets that think it's better to get rage clicks than to inform.

You could always explain what happens instead! Does the rich person not actually bid up the price of a less expensive house? Do they not take the job that brought them to the city? Maybe they evaporate?
comment in response to post
The answer, of course, is that they bid up the price of a less expensive house. It sounds like you want to stop here because you don't like the obvious implication.
comment in response to post
I didn't ask if there was currently supply in your market. I proposed a theoretical situation. If you can't imagine this happening in your city then imagine one where it is happening.
comment in response to post
If a rich person wants to buy a million dollar house in your city and can't find one, what do they do? Assume they are still going to move to your city.
comment in response to post
Look, if you want to remain proudly ignorant about an issue you claim to care about a lot, that's your business. I guess you can take solace in the fact that building market rate housing helps you even if you don't understand why.
comment in response to post
I think you should refrain from offering bad faith criticisms of systems you don't understand. You clearly know you don't understand it. The humble and reasonable thing to do would be to learn.
comment in response to post
Then it kind of seems like you're just offering bad faith criticisms of completely reasonable explanations of market economics.
comment in response to post
This kind of response doesn't really suggest that you have a good idea of how to answer the question

There aren't enough houses in places where people want to live.
comment in response to post
Who gives a shit if anyone has a problem with it? Fuck those people.

Everyone needs to stop buying ink jet printers
comment in response to post
No, it's just less effective because we voluntarily cede the legislative power to make changes.
comment in response to post
If we really want everyone to have a place to live, we have to start demolishing housing
comment in response to post
Ironically most leftists hate investors and are also intensely anti-building.

I think a Gaetz deserves to be a measure of something much slimier than a unit of time

While the literature seems clear that the average person benefits economically from immigration, there is some evidence that immigration can suppress wages for low income workers. This isn't a baseless fear. But we have no messaging on this to address those fears.
comment in response to post
People are worried about crime (which is actually up in many major cities) and we've had no messaging on crime except the lingering memory of defund the police. Working class people are worried about immigrants suppressing wages.
comment in response to post
You can't just do what's popular, but you can't just do what's unpopular either. In this election Democratic policies were less popular on the economy, crime, and immigration.
comment in response to post
Really wish national Democrats could make a serious effort to pay for everyone's childcare. That's the kind of home run working class proposal that we just don't push right now.
comment in response to post
I think my position is more that Trump will successfully bully the Republican Congress into doing whatever he wants and the courts, particularly the SC, are packed with his appointees who can't be relied upon as a check.

Literally every legal use case ever suggested can be done more easily and more cheaply with a standard database with a user interface.
comment in response to post
Such a visa system would probably also struggle to bring in many people because most people want to live with their families
comment in response to post
How many gigawatt hours? Watts are a measure of rate, so it's important to understand how long they can supply that.
