Actually, it is.

Yes, freedom of assembly is an EU fundamental right.

The Commission is tasked under the treaties to observe that member states comply with EU law, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

Juu, se ei tässä jutussa ollut ongelma.

Minusta jokaisen mepin kohdalla on tärkeää mainita poliittinen ryhmä.

comment in response to post
Totta, PfE- ja ESN-ryhmistä löytyy myös paljon putinisteja. Mutta he ovatkin äärioikealla. Ns. keskiryhmissä niitä ei juurikaan ole.
comment in response to post
Poliittiset ryhmät muodostetaan vaalikauden alussa, ja on ryhmän oma päätös, ketä meppejä he haluavat ottaa siihen mukaan. Tämä pätee kaikkiin ryhmiin. Demarien ryhmään liittymisessä tuskin olisi järkeä vasemmistoliitolle, samaa mieltä siitä.

Istuu tosiaan samassa ryhmässä Suomen vasemmistoliiton meppien kanssa.

Error in unit conversions I guess? This looks better.

This looks better.

Idk, some error in unit conversions maybe? The distance between the home base and the first base is 20 metres on a pesäpallo field, meanwhile in baseball the distance between bases is ~27 metres.

The Commission could ask the court to issue daily penalty payments for Hungary until they comply with the ruling.

Persujen oma ECR-ryhmä käytti ryhmäpuheenvuoron Unkarin pride-kiellon puolustamiseen Euroopan parlamentissa, kun siitä keskusteltiin muutama viikko sitten. Media ei ole kysynyt Tynkkyseltä tästä mitään.

Juuri näin. Ostin hiljattain muutaman euron USB-laturin Ikeasta.

Yeah, operationally it would be a huge mess for multiple years. The maintenance cycles rely on the rolling stock being interoperable, not segmented. Certain maintenance measures are done only in a single facility in the the whole country etc.

in 2023 the ministry estimated regauging to costs 5.5 billion euros. Nearly as much as our annual defence budget 🙃 bsky.app/profile/ittu...
comment in response to post
For comparison: our 2025 annual defence budget is 6.5 billion euros or 2.5% of GDP.

Sorry but each machine doing dozens of kilometres per day is just fantasy. The ministry has made a rough estimate of 5.5 billion euros. Yes, some returns to scale can definitely be made but that cost is just a non-starter for our small state. bsky.app/profile/ittu...

In a 2023 study the ministry estimated that the construction cost of regauging the whole 6000 km rail network would be 5.5 BILLION euros. And that does not include operational nor rolling stock costs. lvm.fi/-/selvitys-r...

True. Still a multi billion euro project to regauge 6000 km of track + convert all the rolling stock though.
comment in response to post
True 😁

With our low population density it's basically impossible to make high-speed rail economically viable, except between the large cities in the south which are far away from the Swedish border.
comment in response to post
Spain has not regauged the whole rail network. Yes, they have built 4000 km of standard gauge high-speed rail with tens of billions of euros.
comment in response to post
No public info on this but people here assume that the defence forces have plans to blow up basically every road and rail bridge near the eastern border in case of a sudden attack by Russia.
comment in response to post
In case of a sudden attack by Russia the defence forces would blow up every road and rail bridge near the eastern border, so that is not a major issue.
comment in response to post
I think we could find better (military) uses for the billions of euros that it would cost to regauge 6000 km of rail. Adding some more dual gauge near the only border crossing to Sweden might be wise though.
comment in response to post
Indeed. Either the article is rubbish or the minister is out of her mind if she suggested regauging the whole network. Also, I have no idea where se gets the 27 July 2025 "deadline" for a decision. The deadline for sending the TEN-T regauging assessment to the Commission is 19 July 2026.

(As if we had the technology back in the 18th century)
comment in response to post
Crazy and pointless idea to regauge the whole Finnish railway network. The price tag would be several billions of euros. Not sure if the PS minister realizes that. Adding some dual gauge track for Tornio–Kemi(–Oulu) section might make sense, not regauging the whole network.
comment in response to post
There is only a single one at Tornio–Haaparanta.
