That's not my real name. Surprise, I'm also not Obama wearing Eazy-E's Compton hat and Locs either.
Likely talking music, culture, games, politics. Happy to tell anyone to fuck off, and then give a lecture about manners and class war.

No, and wow grandpa, showing your colors there..
The main themes of rap music go back to sharing stories of the inner city and poverty from the very, very, very first rap song to the most popular rap artists today.

Someone did a loose translation here specifically from the king Shulgi that op mentioned. It's a fun read.
It's really interesting to consider how close to irony these guys actually were, or if they were being entirely straight with it. Hard to say.

I often comment that I am not a humble person, and on that note I quite like it in a modern context myself. There's a lot of room for movement in the confines of the standard.
Because that is really the standard: literally all Akkadian poems read like that. Imitation is a powerful social driver.

<cracks fingers>
"My breakfast, eggs from my own flock. My hunger, I ravished it. My coffee, made in a press by my own strength of will. My weed, I crushed into a glass bowl by the force of my fingers. All shall know how I have conquered the morning."
Needs work but that's Akkadian poetry

Photos like this are so engrossing to me.
The two linked but wholly different emotions on display here - confidence from Weller and interest from Fisher - caught perfectly in a single still. It's really a wonderful photo.

He usually nods to this in his roles. His first line appearing in Sons of Anarchy is correcting someone when they call a guy "Persian" with a quick history lesson.

I really wanted to give it a shot but everything about it was bad. No chemistry in the romance, but a cute idea to go on. Didn't believe either was any kind of soldier for a second.

Let it die. Let it splinter. That's what kills the power - kill the empire.
Germany, Spain, England, Italy, Egypt, and a dozen other nations only exist because Rome splintered.

It is terrifyingly ironic seeing people who are ostensibly leftists talking about some "hopeful future where we rebuild America". That's Hitler thinking about Rome in the 1910s.
comment in response to

Straight up, this is just how history works, and every instance of fighting it results in human atrocities.
Every major Western nation has been trying to rebuild Rome and it results in exactly what we have today, exactly Nazi Germany, exactly Napoleon.

I mean I was nice about it. I didn't attack him for it. I even said please.
I think my use of that word "moreover" probably set him off. I'm gonna tell myself that because it's the dumbest possible thing I can think of, and the reality can't be much dumber.

Please don't associate brain damage with a political preference, that's not how it works and moreover it isn't why he flipped.
He flipped because there's blackmail material, so he probably fucked a teenager. Say that instead.

Oh sure. In fact pretty much every major political player in the Roman Republic and after met similar ends.
That's not the point. Caesar was a dictator of the Republic, not an emperor of an empire. He never held that title. He just built the machine for someone after to use it, so to speak.

All the people talking about how MAGA "doesn't understand the optics" still haven't internalized that yes they do. They understand the optics and want them.
The proud boys use SPQR symbolism for a reason. Nazis did too.
You're trying to find irony as a crutch. These optics are their intent.
comment in response to

Yes, but the shit bit of this is Caesar just _started_ the empire, by crippling the Republic. The empire lasted for centuries after.
That's why they're behind Trump - because he won't be around, but empire and emperors will.

"Reddit censoring me is the same as the threat and execution of state violence":
This is EXACTLY treating big tech as lawmakers and law enforcement, and unfortunately they're counting on you doing just that. Why do you think they act like this? You keep treating them like cops. Leave the platform.
comment in response to

Reddit is lame and complaining about Reddit censoring anything or anyone is even more lame, _especially_ on a different platform altogether

You're not a coward for using a pseudonym, you're just not stupid.

They gave their voting power to the cult. They told their voters, "doesn't matter what this guy is, the other team is literally Satan".
Trump doesn't care about Pence or that entire C Street / The Family group of politicians. They're useless to him.
comment in response to

Pence was the religious right's pick, a concession. I mean the actual political movers, not the pundits and not the voters. Those movers actually brought Republicans the religious vote consistently.
By adopting Trump as their literal savior, letting him commit blasphemy because he's not a dem ..

It saddens me that this idea is associated with a work of popular fiction instead of part of the actual real history of the fall of the Roman Republic. George Martin didn't come up with that.
Legend says this is how the richest man in Rome, Crassus, was treated by his captors.

The company itself is gonna facilitate the robberies. How many return customers are they gonna have if no one ever actually like, needs protection?
You can pretty much guarantee one of their executives, maybe the founder, has deep connections to a violent criminal element already. Bet.
comment in response to

Like this isn't a cynical guess, it is an imperative of turning protection into a capitalist gig economy.
The guys doing the gigs will just call their buddies who also do the gigs. "Come rob us here, it's your week in the masks". Thereby facilitating the need for more gigs.

You know every fascist movement in history has modeled itself after Rome, right? They all aspire to be Imperial Rome.
They should bury that thing again.

Google will report whatever name the country they're operating in wants. Just ask Tibet, Taiwan, etc.
It's still the "Gulf of Mexico" outside the US.
Google has renamed shit on command for China and other nations for years. "Long standing practice" they call it, even.

There are entire cross fit churches and they're filled to the brim with angry, insane white people. My neighbors used to scream at each other every single day. Like the whole block heard.
They only started that shit after they started at the cross fit church. Pretty sure they were giving out roids.
