The last 2 ink/marker sketches for my annual sale of originals are: 1) Portrait of Ceratosaurus. 2) Diadectes scaring away a Secodontosaurus that encroached in its territory If you are interested in one of these then DM me #paleoart #sciart #art

Wood ducks are so beautiful. These were in a huge group of mallards. Only ones who didn’t leave the water to beg for food when they saw me approach. (Don’t feed wild ducks) 🦆🪶 #birding

Antarctic theropods 🐧

Boar? Boar! #inkart #animaldrawing

I love mammoth (painted this one having zoomies) 🦣

Did some cleanup and minor changes for this (very old) Allosaurus jimmadseni snatching up a Camarasaurus baby. #sciart #paleoart #dinosaur #jurassic

Sneak peek - how muscular was Homotherium serum, exactly? And should we return to the slope-backed look? Skeletal and soft tissue exploration coming soon (when I have some time away from my thesis!)

Large predatory mammals of Finland, drawn for the Finnish Nature Association. The existence of large predators is almost entirely up to the goodwill of humanity. Thus, it is crucial to tell people about these amazing animals, countering fear with wonder and understanding. #Sciart

For today, 2 new ink/marker sketches for this year’s last week of my annual sale of originals. 1) The giant ichthyosaur Guanlingsaurus swims in between a pair of stem turtles Odontochelys. 2) Thylacosmilus scanning the area from its observation post If interested in one of these DM me #paleoart #art

Mamenchisaurid with speculative breeding "plumage" - I'm imagining these as less fluffy & more like long, floppy spines or quills that grow during the breeding season. Directly inspired by living animals #paleoart

New LotR fanart! Arwen. Or, fun with muted, moody color palettes. Medium: Photoshop & Wacom Intuos 4.

My drawing of the basal sabretooth cat, Yoshi minor (or Metailurus parvulus). This species was about the size of a large lynx and lived in the Late Miocene, around 9 MYA. It was a leggy, small skulled animal that bore little resemblance to the big, famous sabretooths like Smilodon. #palaeoart

One of the most beautiful spiders I've ever seen. Gasteracantha sp., Mozambique

Irritator challengeri greeting the new day with a song. (Reposted with the stoopid typo!)

Some lines on those pterothings!

The basal dinosauriform Marasuchus lived about 235 million years ago. This small, gracile animal with very elongated hindlimbs is probably a pretty good approximation of what the ancestors of #dinosaurs looked like. It is unknown whether they would have had filamentous integument. #palaeoart

Sharpened up drawing of the giant ceratopsid Triceratops horridus. #palaeoart #dinosaur

Rinchenia

Slightly updated Judith River scene of Daspletosaurus chasing Brachylophosaurus. #palaeoart #dinosaurs

A family of the scimitar-toothed cat Homotherium latidens, including two cubs. Concept sketch done as resquested by patron Ben Corey, who as a patron in the Deinonychus and upper tiers can request a taxon for me to sketch every 3 months #paleoart #sciart #art #homotherium

Sharpened up this old Gryposaurus drawing. #palaeoart #dinosaur

Who can predict the next step in this chain of events?

These illustrations are amazing, brilliant work! 🦕

For #valentinesday and #FossilFriday, here's Tyrannosaurus engaging in face biting, a behaviour evidenced from numerous tooth gouges and puncture wounds in their skulls. Among living species, face biting is strongly correlated with the onset of sexual maturity, so this image is love-adjacent, sorta.

Things are hotting up for the increasingly close release of my next book: King Tyrant: a Natural History of Tyrannosaurus rex. We now have preview content for a few pages, showing off the text, diagrams and #paleoart. Full book comes out in May! #FossilFriday press.princeton.edu/books/hardco...

Another for #LoveHornbillsDay! The beak looks a little funny on this guy, but honestly that's just what this individual looks like 🐡🪶

- Voay robustus - Commission I made for a very nice guy last week. If someone wants to commission me, Im open, as we say in Spain: Bueno, bonito y barato.

I've spent a couple of months a year out hiking/painting/sketching/photographing in the wilds of North America for over 20 years now and I have only seen a mountain lion in-person once. They are deeply private cats. "The Catbird Seat," oil on linen, 40"x35". #art #wildlifeart #cougar

I wanted to groom a lion, but with a twist. So here is cave lion! Any critique is appreciated, because I don't know that much about mammals.
