Focusing on the war-peace nexus, postwar cities (Beirut, Belfast, Mitrovica, Mostar, Nicosia, etc.), the socioeconomics of peace, and geocoded urban violence at Uppsala University. I like mountains and tattoos.

One day everyone will have been against this.

Ok folks, deep breaths. There is very real reason to worry about the dynamic emerging between Washington and Moscow when it comes to Ukraine. But there is also very real reason to believe that Ukraine and Europe can create a better outcome. (A rather long 🧵, obviously) /1

The (Indian) author forgot to mention that no part of this “relocation” was voluntary and by choice. That it was bloody, traumatic and fractured an entire continent forever. That it tore families apart forever, including mine. @wsj.com has really set the bar for bigotry too low.

🚩Anyone working on protest/spatiality/protest camps/urban protest and planing to attend MESA this year? @myriahmed.bsky.social are putting together a panel and still have two empty slots!

Biden's was a deeply rotten administration that went further right than most rightwing governments for the sole purpose of defending Israel's right to commit genocide. They have left the doors wide open for Trump and now we all have to deal with the consequences of that.

In 467 days, Israel has killed 46,788 Palestinians in Gaza (excluding thousands more whose deaths remain unreported, missing, or buried under the rubble) and injured 110,453 individuals.

Every educational, academic, and cultural institution in Gaza where I studied, worked, or attended a conference or event—every theater, every archive, every historic landmark and site—has been completely destroyed. They no longer exist.

Palestinian babies are not spontaneously freezing to death. They are being deliberately subjected to conditions calculated to terminate life. In other words, they are being murdered. The cause of death is not the cold, but the genocide being perpetrated by Israel and the US.

At least 5 newborns have frozen to death in Gaza in the past week alone. 30 day old Juma al-Batran died in his father’s arms due to lack of heating and his twin is in medical care. These babies have never known any other existence. Their moms spent their entire pregnancies surviving a genocide.

"We feel as if the rest of the world is wrapped up in a different world than the one we are in. We are suffering and paying the price of the genocide that is happening to our people here in northern Gaza." Hussam Abu Safiyeh's final entry in his NYT diary last month www.nytimes.com/2024/12/02/o...

Two stages of writing: 1) This shouldn't take too long 2) Oh no

Universities do not exist to 'train', produce 'skills' or generate 'impact'. They exist to create new knowledge and teach about it. Any assertion to the contrary is in error, and is destroying everything it touches.

🚨 Kosovo police have declared last night’s explosion on a vital water supply line in the Serb-majority north a “terrorist attack.” The line is a critical source of water to multiple areas and cools the country’s main power plants. They also confiscated a large weapons cache, including uniforms.

Potentially quite dangerous development. This water supply is fundamental for Kosovo. kossev.info/explosion-at...

We have an article published in the November issue of @politicalgeography.bsky.social. In this article we develop an analytical framework around the concepts of ‘theft of time’ and ‘stolen dignity’ to examine the impact of checkpoints on people's everyday lives in Iraq. ➡️https://rb.gy/rdxr9t

There’s like 12 more IDF evacuation orders for Dahieh, Beirut tonight. I’ve lost count of how many there have been but it’s easily in the lower hundreds. An entire historical area of Beirut is being annihilated on a quasi-daily basis.

HIGH ALERT HIGH ALERT.

Recent reports indicate a high civilian death toll in #Gaza, with nearly 70 percent of those killed being women and children according to #UN data.

True true!

This story by my @washingtonpost.com colleagues about the toll of Israel's air war on Lebanon's children is devastating. "The bodies of the adults had long since been retrieved. Pieces of the children, though, were still being found everywhere." www.washingtonpost.com/world/2024/1...

Not sure how it works on this bluesky thing but I published a free-to-access article earlier this week: Looks at the lifeworlds that people construct for themselves in conflict-affected societies. doi.org/10.1177/0010...
