Another way is possible. Don't lose sight of that.

Mama always taught me to stand up and fight for it. You can't respect yourself otherwise.

Something that 2024 taught me in spades is that when you treat ppl as disposable - by ghosting them, by making assumptions, by ignoring cries for help to insulate yourself -you lose your humanity. You become callous and shallow. And you’re going to need every bit of your humanity in 2025

What are some of y’all’s favorite poems about poverty, the working class, money fear?

I actually love writing. I feel like that's become a marginal view because it's so cool in writing culture to brag on how you're not writing & complain about how miserable you find it. Being at the page & having words come out of me & editing them later is joyful for me. @upfromsumdirt.bsky.social

Happy shortlist day! First up, we’ve got seven fantastic poetry collections by transfeminine authors up for the Best Transfeminine Poetry of 2024 award 💖 The trans poetry community is mostly on Instagram (where I am not), so if folks want to go shout people out over there that would rock.

“I used to think I wrote because there was something I wanted to say. Then I thought, ‘I will continue to write because I have not yet said what I wanted to say’: but I know now I continue to write because I have not yet heard what I have been listening to.” Mary Ruefle

“It is not enough / To love you. It is not enough to want you destroyed.” Terrence Hayes

And poet laureate of Madison, Wisconsin!

Hey friends— Over the past few years I’ve done a roundup of trans/nonbinary/gender non-conforming *debut* authors. I’m building my 2024 list now! Send me your favorites (or yours if you debuted this year)! Last year’s here for reference: chireviewofbooks.com/2023/12/22/6...
