Before I retired I worked for @uncpress.bsky.social which published this book. uncpress.org/book/9781469...

I was there from 82-87, worked for University of Maryland Munich Campus (a 2-year college for DoD dependents who didn't want to send their 18 year olds back to the States alone for college).

I had no idea Karl May was such an interesting character. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_May

Shouldn't they be "alleged" Federal Agents? No ID, no warrants, no uniforms?

sorry "early 80s"

I lived in Munich in the late early 80s and at that time there were enough German country/bluegrass bands for a weekend festival. Also they are obsessed with Native Americans because of a German author they all read in their childhoods.

Thanks! It's been ...hmmm...30 years since I've driven down to my hometown in Florida but I always stopped at the welcome station.
comment in response to post
Just FYI I've seen Navy sailors refer to ships as boats online. Not sure what the distinction is.
comment in response to post
You used to get free state maps at the welcome station when you crossed into another state. Coming into Florida you got free orange juice. Do they still have welcome stations?
comment in response to post
So much development that mapmakers can't keep up with all the new roads... Even apple maps can't keep up with new stoplights I have found

Did not know that! I'm on the Wake side of Durham county so that could definitely be an option. Thank you!

Thanks so much! I'm in Durham and our libraries are absolutely wonderful too!

I did for a while but it was more expensive than the national papers. But I'll think about it again. Unsubscribed from the NYT and they literally made me an offer I couldn't refuse (Cooking! The Athletic!)
comment in response to post
Oh I use it regularly for The Atlantic, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair etc. And tbh I read both papers for the long-form stuff, not the "news".

Hey I live in North Carolina and that is the correct order.
comment in response to post
Yep. I don't actually watch any local news or national news broadcasts, only weather on WRAL. Check their webpage for local news & NYT and WaPo online. Will probably have to cancel soon since I'm on fixed income (SocSec)

Thanks for the reminder. Our state legislature (NC) has a habit of allowing no time to read bills. Signature Republican move.

And yet...where were they bringing it to? Were they researching at the UMich or MSU? What if they were working on a cure for cancer? Sadly my trust in the FBI (despite the shows) is shattered.

I thought that's why they have staffers. Staffers read the bill and prepare an executive summary. I thought these bills were hundreds of pages long?

This is only the second time I've listened to a press question at the WH press briefing and my god, can a reporter just get to the damn point without a monologue first? And then followup?

My local "best weather" station is owned by Capitol Broadcasting Company, "one of the few family-owned broadcasting companies left in the country, owned by four generations of the Fletcher-Goodmon family." Also own the Durham Bulls minor league baseball team.

Oh wow! Sure I'm significantly older than you but glad to hear there are still folks able to grow up there now that it is Cocoa Village and a cruise ship destination. Dad worked on the Space Program.

Wait who's from Eau Gallie? I'm from Cocoa.
