It's over 12 yrs since we could cook a meal for a parent. 40 in my dad's case. Enjoy them while you can. It ends too soon.

I haven't managed to even get used to Quantum Mechanics...

Reminds me of the sitcom "Yes Minister" irregular verb conjugations.
"I am a liberator,
You are a freedom fighter,
He (she) is a terrorist."
I'm not laughing now.

Yeah. I suspect many have yet to believe that coffee aroma.

In the UK, large trucks have amber lights along the trailer bodies so that you can see them and know it's a side on view. Isn't it time airplanes had similar lights. Maybe with a ripple effect in the diection of travel?

Oh dear. At the risk of being accused of mansplaining, I'd say from your description it sounds like bloat. As there's no lush vegetation, had she had too much grain from that nearby feeder? When we had sheep, they always seemed to be looking for ways to die...

The police should act. I can't believe that blocking roads with tractors is an agricultural operation. So do they have valid insurance. Are they using tax free diesel for non ag purposes? There used to be a big fine for doing that.

Surely that's impossible?

Four of them! Disastrous group think? I'll get the episode as soon as I see it on @podcastaddict.bsky.social

My primary school teacher hit us on the back of the leg if we got sums wrong. Ah, the good old days - short trousers, no central heating and not being allowed to ask for second helpings.

What would be the point of that? You'd have to wait years for the placebo cohort to get ill and die. So no results for yrs. Is that the objective?

As most places charge more than that for a coffee, it is indeed extraordinary.

It will also feel like inflation.

Some friends of ours went to Wales last Friday for a birthday party. It's this weekend. Having coffee with us now before setting off again for the 3.5 hr drive...

And it will keep rising even if we stop measuring it... Imagine flying a plane without an altimeter!

And you can have sheep grazing the grass around the panels. Which also give them shade from sun and shelter from rain. Apart from aesthetics, what's not to like?

It's a really poor way to price electricity. It's holding back the installation of domestic heat pumps and sales of EV's. And it makes pur economy uncompetitive

It's a shock to me too. It's one of my favourites. Is there a casualty list somewhere?

I suspect a lot more wildlife is being damaged by pet flea treatments. It needs to be prevented.

Booked the roofers a week ago for repairs to the top of the sw facing gable wall. Looks like I'll have a good place in the queue... Didn't know about the storm at the time, though.

In my younger days, half a century ago, it was called the rhythm method. Or pregnancy roulette. Especially risky for those who have a variable cycle. Good quality independent professional advice on sexual health and contraception should be freely available for all.

As a tax raising measure, it will raise little money. As a way of keeping non EU buyers out, it will work extremely well. Clearly Spain doesn't want us. Holiday somewhere else.

I had a small shopping list for Waitrose on Sunday. It was so crowded I left, and I haven't been back. No one noticed the restricted cheese choice...

There is nothing stable about renewable energy, as the output from my rooftop solar panels in December demonstrates all too clearly.

You interpret my response in the opposite way to my meaning. I don't think any staff should need to do overtime.

The answer is simply to employ enough drivers. Until such time as we have automated trains which don't need a driver.

It means they can afford not to do overtime. So, probably, quite a lot.

Farmers do have a high suicide rate. Up to now, it hasn't been about IHT. Or VAT. Or Business Rates. More about isolation and lack of support. Maybe farming has become so complex that going it alone is not a viable position to be in?
comment in response to

Farmers get lots of tax breaks. Can reclaim all VAT. Exempt from business rates. And tax free diesel for agricultural purposes. Will Customs and Excise be checking that they're not using red diesel to drive round town?

Why prescribe paracetamol at all? It doesn't work as a painkiller for me and maybe the majority of people if they did but know? It does reduce fever symptoms for me - temperature and pulse rate - to a degree.

Typically, I walk for just under 2 hrs a day. No stress, no worries, and no back pain. Less than an hour in a gallery or museum gives me an aching lower back.

A night to stay in. Definitely don't go out and get a puncture like I did on Monday night.

My biggest caveat is the vulnerability of a long undersea cable to damage/sabotage. Would we save as much CO2 if the power was used locally? Or even more?
