Nice to see FOY Little Egret back at Stamford Bridge Flash this morning. Green Woodpecker yaffling, pair of Goosanders on the Derwent adjacent, 3 Wigeon and 8 Gadwall.

A cold but brighter morning at Wheldrake Ings. Saw 3 different Marsh Harriers, 2 cream crowns, one much darker than t'other plus a pale well marked adult female, all from the Pool hide. 7 Whoopers were settled and feeding on the S side of Refuge. @ldvnnr.bsky.social @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Wheldrake Ings, lovely to see a family of 6 Whoopers, 2ads,4 juvs, had rested overnight on the Refuge, then calling to one another, head-bobbing, and off at 0830hrs on their return journey north already. Willow Tit singing at sunrise. Godwit flock. @ldvnnr.bsky.social @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Godwit flock building up on the rich feeding grounds of the Refuge @ldvnnr.bsky.social - viewed from the ramp to the Swantail hide this morning @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Wheldrake Ings @ldvnnr.bsky.social 156 Godwits today, a good record for early Feb. Each year they are arriving earlier and last year exceeded 1k before their onward migration to breed. 14 Goldeneye in a displaying huddle near Swantail, 85 Tufted in a tight knit flock, M Harrier, Dunlin & Goldies.

Look at the size of the footprint from a White tailed eagle 🦅😳 the eagle had landed on the beach in the distance to eat a bird. This is the size of its footprint left in the sand, compared to my size 5 😳 what an amazing sight to see in the wild #OuterHebrides

Pleased to say the Smew pair remain on the Pool @ldvnnr.bsky.social this morning, feeding tight up to the Willows on W side. @yorkbirding.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social

A tracking study has found that dogs walked off-lead cause significantly more disturbance on lowland heaths than pets kept on the lead:

Pleased to say the White Nun and his partner remain on the Pool @ldvnnr.bsky.social this afternoon. Improvised pic, scope in for repair currently. @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Zero degrees, a summer plumaged BHG in with the 3300nr gull roost at CHL tonight, on the 90% frozen Great Lake.

A wild, eye-watering, hold onto your scope afternoon at CHL, so I gave up on doing counts. Even some of the swans and geese were taking cover. A drake Goosander, circa 24 Goldeneye, and the RCP remains.

CHL, numbers of wildfowl again well below earlier totals. 8 Goldeneye, RCP back on the lake. 37 species. SB Flash shaping up now after the floods (pic), 31 species this morning, Marsh Tits, Siskins & Sparrowhawk seen. Full lists on Birdtrack.

56 Tufted on Refuge, from E Cott bank, a few Pinks visible through gap in hedge in next but one field above Aughton church, 2 Egyptian Geese in field above this. 48 Pochard from platform at NDC. @ldvnnr.bsky.social @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Great birthday pressie reference set for me to have going forward. One of grandsons comments "Cor it's going to take you a long time to read that grandad"

CHL this morning, interesting to see the wildfowl numbers fluctuate as waters open up around the area. Goldeneye 10 today, recently 26, Tufted 69, recently 155, Wigeon 31, 199 in the freeze. Amazed to see the size of Perch downed by a Cormorant. @yorkbirding.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social

Lots of Plover at NDC today, mainly Green but prob. c.500 Golden. Good numbers now of Dunlin. Lovely close views of 9 Whoopers close in to Aughton church, separate from the flock on W bank. 7 Pochard & 52 Tufted on Refuge, Wheldrake Ings, viewed from bank N of E Cott. @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Bright and breezy at CHL. A good November total, for York area, of 21 Goldeneye. 1 adult male, the rest juvs & females. 3 Goosanders briefly on the water and a Red-crested Pochard. @yorkbirding.bsky.social

Beautiful day for viewing @northcavewet.bsky.social 4 Bearded tits at Cell C, Bittern in the open on the cut at Village Lake, from East hide, male Peregrine in the Oaks from the new hide and watched the 2 Whoopers lift off heading E from Crosslands.

My first post on here. Enjoyed a wonderful day at Bempton and the Great White Cape. Watching 1000's of Pinks coming in off and down the coast. Good views first thing in the sunshine of a rare Asian vagrant, an Isabelline Shrike. A Little Bunting seen well but briefly in Old Fall hedge. #UKBirding
