A surprise male Wheatear at Northwick Warth found by Derek Clarke on Northwick Warth this morning. My earliest sighting.

Some small tweaks to the UKBirding feed this month: - picking up more research post relevant to birds/birding (mostly from @ibisjournal.bsky.social) - expanded the list of regional tags to pick up some that have emerged organically - more organisations/bloggers added to the all post list

I’m sure this is a cool paper but the AI figure image here is terrible.

This is cool, inevitable even. bsky.app/profile/adam...

Alex and I have published our methods paper today! We tested three methods to define social associations from RFID tag data across four wild study systems. All three methods detected signal from the noise of flocking, with differences driven by ecological nuances or study design. #ornithology 🧪🪶

Calling all #ukbirding County Recorders interested in cleaning and extracting data from eBird. I have updated the app I developed with @ollie333.bsky.social, and moved it over to a new hosting platform. You can now find it here: dbradnum-ebirdcountyrecordcleaner.share.connect.posit.cloud

Last night I learned that swearing inside your google search disables the Gemini AI output in the search results (Thanks @snaildoc.bsky.social ) ✨

Bird ringers, we are (again) looking for dropped twite feathers. If you have access to a population in the UK or continental Europe, please do keep us in mind.

New to Bluesky. Usually posting about birds, nature, or my artwork. Say 👋 Just for fun here are some #hiddengems pieces. Spot the odd one out! Marsh tits/willow tit, black-headed gulls/Bonaparte's gull, snipe/jack snipe, golcrests/firecrest #birds #nature #art #hiddengems

Do any bird ringers have mixtapes for migrant warblers they could share? #birdringing

One of two purple sandpiper at Mevagissey outer harbour last weekend. Only my second record here. #CornwallBirding

It’s amazing how much bird content there is in BSky’s trending videos. It’s a testament to the community here.

Cool.

Velvet scoter from chapel point yesterday. Briefly in Port Mellon bay then south west. #cornwallbirds

#UKBirding #Birds Birders! Please use alt-text when you're posting photos of birds. It helps folks with low/no vision and it also helps people who are learning to know what the bird is that you've posted a photo of. In settings you can choose 'require alt text' and then you'll be reminded to add it

There's no better illustration of the behavioral differences between herring and lesser black-backed gulls than tracking them over winter. From Steep Holm, while our marked lesser black-backs are scattered along the East Atlantic flyway, one herring gull went no further than Cardiff train station.
