No worries at all. I love the honesty! A few more questions, please:
1. What are some of your favourite mystery books or shows? (YA or otherwise)
2. How do you go about shortlisting submissions? Has there been a common factor/trend with your winners?

Amazing! Follow-up please: What are elements of a cosy mystery that would make you flip?

Hi Megan! Thanks so much for your time! Are you open to YA cosy mystery? (I saw Adult Cosy Mystery & YA Mystery on your MWSL, but just wanted to check :))

Thank you so much, Hannah! I really appreciate your time!Definitely has at least one round of self-edits, but good to check! :)

Ah, amazing! Thank you heaps, Hannah! :)
Would you also be open to an earlier draft? If we only stumbled upon Revpit recently, should we mention this?
And if there might be agent/big five editor interest, should we mention this? Or it mightn't factor in your shortlisting?

Yes, definitely! It’ll be set in Manila, Philippines with a v homesick and unhappy Filipino-Australian FMC (forced to move from Aus.
Comps are Crazy Rich Asian Asians x Ace of Spades. :)

Hi Hannah! Thanks so much for your time. :)
Would a YA cosy mystery set outside the US be of interest?

Thank you so much, Miranda! I have a funky self-imposed writing timeline this year. But I super appreciate your time!!

Ahh thank you so much, Leah! ✨🧡
Understanding that a polished draft is best (but having only discovered RevPit about 4–6 weeks ago and knowing my book is in an earlier draft stage and needs work)—would you still be open to having a read?

Awesome. I love the goal to move into editing and teaching writing full-time. Thank you so much, Miranda! And to all the other editors volunteering! From the way the #RevPit is going, I can absolutely see it becoming massive with each year!

Understanding that a polished draft is best, but given that we only discovered RevPit about 4–6 weeks ago and know our book is in an earlier draft stage compared to others—meaning it still needs a lot of work—should I mention that I'd be super happy to completely rewrite it with the right guidance?

Love the voice and unreliable narrators in Everytime I Go On Vacation and Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone!
I tried experimenting with FMC trying to directly speak to reader dropping hints/clues in this draft, but it needs a lot of work. Have you had any clients do the same in their books?

Ah!!! Excellent taste! All of these are actually my favourite books from the last few years!
I would also recommend My Family & Other Suspects by Kate Emery. My favourite YA cosy mystery from 2024 set in Australia. The MC does the fourth wall breaks so well. I lol'd throughout!

Love that you crochet and all these fun facts! I've always wanted to learn!
As a serious hustler, what's the dream for your editing business in a few years? And how can your #RevPit shortlist or winners help you get you there?
comment in response to
post
Awesome! That makes sense! Thanks so much, Miranda! 🙏
You mentioned you're a hustler (respect!)–– ultimately, what are you looking for in your final pick? Is it a book you could have the biggest impact on? One that could potentially be a bestseller? Or otherwise?

Hi Miranda! Thanks so much for your time––I asked a few questions in a different thread, but I'd love to ask if #2 is more important than #1 for you?

2. How would you prioritise the following factors when choosing your shortlist:
• Willingness to significantly revise, rewrite, or restructure it?
• Overall strength and potential of the book concept?
• Previous interest from agents and publishers (including a couple from the Big Five)?

Hi @miranda-darrow.bsky.social ! I'm so sorry, I missed your #MeetTheEditor session––timezone is tricky here in Aus! Your memes and fun facts are always so fun!
A few questions, please:

Amazing! Thank you so much for clarifying, Leah! :)
Yay for #1! With #2, should we clarify which big five publications if there are multiple?
Also, excellent taste on JJK!!!
