Will once again try to post here more as I continue to wean myself off of X (it sure as hell ain’t Twitter anymore). HBD Charles Lloyd. Had the AOTY as an 83 y/o last year. A living legend. This is a live performance from 1969. Charles on tenor/flute, Keith Jarrett piano, JDJ drums, Ron McClure bass

It was, as they say, a very good mail day

This Edward Said guy really knows his shit

Why do I have more QRT’d Trump shit on my timeline here than on twitter?

Raiding dad’s shelves. I don’t know Mose Allison well. This is bluesy, pleasant stuff; lowers your blood pressure with the vibes, but raises it with the butter. Very good shit. Probably more of an evening listen but is painting the space with easygoing energy

HBD Milt Jackson. I don’t have a lot of vinyl of his, but this is high on my list to buy if I happen across it. Bags and Brother Ray, no vocals, just slathering the room in butter. The ultimate late night album. A five sticker; I’d give it six if I could 🧈🧈🧈🧈🧈

Really just trying to keep it to music here, but a few years ago, as torrential rains ended a drought, I went on a hike and gleefully guzzled water from a waterfall born anew from the downpour. It resulted in the worst diarrhea I’ve ever had.

An honor to have Total Blue, one of the best albums of the year, on my table. Probably the work that eluded labels the most for me. Thick, humid textures, like moving through overgrown jungle. Both calming and a bit sinister.

Absolutely only picked this up because the cover was cool as shit. Being rewarded with perfect interstellar textures and heavy synth work that doesn’t disturb a beautiful morning between rain storms. I don’t know of1000faces but will definitely check out their discography

Setting the bar for harpsichord jazz

Revisiting what I will confidently call cheap heat. Further research indicates Tonooka is still active as a band leader and teacher. This one is quite good. Really swings. Four out of 5 sticks on the Butter Meter. 🧈🧈🧈🧈

5 sticks! Have listened p much everyday since I got it. Learn thee some Jutta Hipp, she fuckin goes!! 🧈🧈🧈🧈🧈

Reasons I picked this up: potential for cheap heat, recent YouTube fascination with maritime disasters, and that it was autographed by musicians I had never heard of. This is pretty standard issue, vacillating between straight jazz covers and ragtime-ish sounding arrangements

Books I read in 2024. Ones I really enjoyed are bolded. Notably: Denis Johnson wrote both my favorite book I read this year (Tree of Smoke) and my least favorite book I read this year (Already Dead)

Art Farmer is an area of development for me. This is my first time hearing this one. I’m glad I waited to hear it on this medium because holy SHIT does it fucking GO, man

Rainy morning butter. Also good Christmas jazz for the goyim in my life. Definitely a 5 sticker on JacobJBG’s Butter Meter 🧈🧈🧈🧈🧈

You’ll be seeing this on your timeline a lot today (do they call it a timeline here? It really doesn’t matter, it’s just a less obviously racist’s billionaire’s site, it’s not that special)

Excellently weird album! Ofc Tony Williams is going to town on drums, but Tom Grant is matching the shredding imperative on keys, and Patrick O’Hearn is laying a heavy foundation on electric bass. Vaguely ahead of its time in 1980; fans of Black Focus (2016) should check this out

Over the weekend, I will pick my favorite 20 vinyls I purchased this year.

JacobJBG’s 30ish favorite albums of 2024. Took me a minute but you’ll like everything you’ll hear from this list.

And the AOTY: Charles Lloyd’s The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow, with Brian Blade, Larry Grenadier, and Jason Moran. One of the finest jazz albums of the last decade, and maybe all time.
