The Colorado Railroad Museum houses historical railroad equipment that could be seen throughout the state, including steam engines, diesel engines and passenger cars from the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and other railroads in the state. #photography

Sandia Peak is also home to some of New Mexico’s best skiing. Skiers can enjoy traversing hills through the Cibola National Forest, and can access the ski hills via a road on the eastern slope or the Sandia Tramway on the western side. #photography

The top of the Sandia Mountains gives us an unobstructed view of a large part of central New Mexico. Here we’re able to see the Santa Rosa mountains over 50 miles away as well as a field of wind turbines to the east of those mountains. Simply incredible. #photography

Because of their separation from the Rocky Mountains, the Sandia Mountains feature more prominently from the relatively flatland around them. Travelers heading west along Interstate 40 can see them from over 40 miles away before heading through Tijeras Canyon and entering Albuquerque. #photography

An interesting thing you’ll find at the top of the Sandia Mountains is this Kiwanis Cabin. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps around 1930. While you can’t stay in the cabin, it can be a great place to watch the sunset over central New Mexico. #photography

Wind turbines have started to dominate the Texas big country landscape, proving more and more green energy. Traveling between Fort Worth and Midland, you’ll see massive wind farms converting the afternoon breeze into energy for us to use. #photography

Something that’s hard to capture in any photo is the shear size of the Grand Canyon. It’s something that you just have to see for yourself. The power of water is incredible as we try to imagine how the Colorado River below was able to carve out this wonder of the world. #photography

Downtown Flagstaff is a lovely area located on old Route 66. The downtown area is a great place to walk around, dine, shop and enjoy music. And when the sun goes down, it only gets better as the neon lights light up the downtown the area like on this summer evening. #photography

Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Golden, Colorado, is a lovely town. While people play volleyball and relax on the grass in the park, someone has made art out of this notch in a tree. And for a second we wonder if there really is some magic behind those doors. #photography

The end of a long day of travel and rain brought with it a spectacular blue, purple and orange sunset. And the setting for this sunset could not have been anymore picturesque. Sentinel Peak and A Mountain provide a great background for this moment as we begin to wind down for the day. #photography

Albuquerque, New Mexico, is know for its hot air balloon festival that takes place in the fall which sees over 500 balloons take flight over Balloon Fiesta Park for 9 days. Here we get a much smaller taste of them seeing these decorations outside a small shop in Old Town Albuquerque. #photography

Created by architects Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels in 1974, Cadillac Ranch features 10 Cadillac cars buried nose-first into the ground a few miles west of Amarillo. Visitors can buy spray paint at the entrance and paint the cars, creating a living art exhibit. #photography

Laurel Falls might not be the biggest waterfall in these parts of the smoky mountains, but it’s still a wonderful waterfall. And the rocks around the falls provide us a chance to rest and enjoy this scene before heading back down the trail to explore the mountains even more. #photography

As freight trains wind their way through the Norfolk Southern’s Appalachia District, they arrive at a pretty unique site: Natural Tunnel State Park. Here the tracks cut their way though the mountains into this hole in the ground through tunnels built by nature. #photography

Standing at 6,644 feet above sea level, Kuwohi is the highest point in both Great Smoky Mountains National Park and along the Appalachian Trail. Kuwohi is the traditional Cherokee name for the mountain and translates to “mulberry place.” #photography

While the Tower 55 crossing near downtown Fort Worth is the busiest in the area, the Tower 29 crossing still sees a lot of traffic. Though the old interlocking tower is gone, today the BNSF’s Wichita Falls and Fort Worth subs cross here as well as the Union Pacific’s Duncan sub. #photography

I will never not be amazed by the Airbus A380 airplane. I got to see it land twice at DFW when Qantas was flying its Sydney to DFW route with the plane. It just doesn’t seem like it should be able to fly … but it does. #photography

The Schnebly Hill Formation dominates the landscape around Sedona, Arizona. These red rocks are unique to this area as this is the only place that this color of sandstone can be found. Here it provides the absolute perfect backdrop for a stop for lunch. #photography

The area between Lordsburg, New Mexico, and the Arizona state line to the west is dominated by an alkali flat. Today, a Union Pacific train travels across the Lordsburg Subdivision headed west towards Tucson, Phoenix and possibly even Los Angeles. #photography

Built in 1946 by Shelby Kritser, Tradewind Airport is a municipal airport just southeast of downtown Amarillo. Today, the clear skies and calm wind make for a great day of flying, but we’re keeping our feet on the ground. #photography

Meteor Crater near Winslow, Arizona, was created over 50,000 years ago when a meteorite made of nickel and iron made it through the earth’s atmosphere and impacted the ground. The crater is 0.737 miles across and 580 feet deep and rises above the flat terrain of northeast Arizona. #photography
