@pixelpusher220 yes you can just write a live Linux to a USB drive! I would recommend balena etcher for this but there are many tools that do the job.

@pixelpusher220 you could try ddrescue on Linux. It reads the drive raw and ignores any read errors. So it recovers what it can, even if it's not everything. Keep in mind tho that if the drive is physically damaged, this might make the situation worse. Any activity of the drive when it's […]

@blag I use an HP Elite x2. They have models from many different years and they are very easy to get and cheap on the used market because companies buy them a lot. They also get BIOS updates for a long time and mine works flawlessly with Linux.
