I’ll say this positively. I thank the handful of my Republican colleagues who objected when the US President stood with a bloody totalitarian murderer against a struggling democracy. Not today, not tomorrow, but the rest will face history’s harshest judgment.

Like watching a toddler on a racehorse

Sassoon and Scotten showing courage, integrity and deep respect for the rule of law. I’ve got 270 or so colleagues in the Congress who might pick up a tip or two. t.co/kguVUO4yyN

Truly amazing to watch all those who had social media orgasms when the Supreme Court invalidated Biden’s student debt relief now SHOCKED SHOCKED SHOCKED that judges are turning back Trump’s illegal orders. Utterly unprincipled people.

Zero fraud has been found. Lots of programs you don’t agree with, but zero fraud or abuse.

@jahimes.bsky.social on the risk of DOGE employees possessing classified information: “It might be as simple as leaving your phone on the table at Starbucks — if that phone has information… it could wind up in Iranian hands. They fact that they haven't undergone training… people should be worried.”

It’s bad enough that the GOP has abandoned all checks and balances for abject sycophancy. Should their overlord decide to ignore court decisions, he (and they, if they maintain their servility) will break our democracy. THAT is the Constitutional crisis.

Snowy New England Sunday!

Totally fine. This isn’t the 19th century. But dress shoes with white soles are not OK. Maybe at the beach. t.co/IOoC7q0Bok

Read these two grafs from today’s Wall Street Journal. Then read them again. When the next terrorist attack occurs, remember what the Trump administration was doing to the FBI.

They’re running low on the squirrels they’re hoping we’ll chase.

1/ In the last two weeks, Trump came out of the box fast, brutal, illegal and unconstitutional. His supporters and my Republican colleagues seem to love him for it. Remember a couple of things--

So if I’m following this correctly, next week Mr Trump will raise the price of fruit, vegetables, cars, lumber and energy by 25% or so. And next month he will cut the US corporate tax rate from 21% to 15%. Ok then.

1/ The Trump Administration is moving to purge hundreds of FBI employees around the country, including some of the most experienced special agents and anyone assigned to investigations into Jan 6. Here’s why that’s chilling:

To review, Trump pardoned all of the January 6 rioters who attacked the capitol and assaulted 140 police officers, resulting in several fatalities. And now they are tracking down and firing the law enforcement officials who prosecuted them. Lots of winning.

I expect the courts to strike down Donald Trump's unconstitutional funding freeze, but along the way there will be a real human tragedy as Americans are deprived of food, heat, and housing during the winter.

TONIGHT: @jahimes.bsky.social joins @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com on The #LastWord at 10pm ET.

It’s absolutely amazing how much my Republican pals have learned about bird flu this week. Must have been a class on Monday or something.

Happening now: CT Congressman @jahimes.bsky.social, who witnessed the attack on the Capitol from the House Gallery, leads a special order hour on the House floor on Trump's January 6 pardons www.c-span.org/event/us-hou...

So glad to see so many of President Trump’s supporters touring the capitol today. I felt really badly as they (and many of my constituents) shivered in the arctic cold yesterday as Zuckerberg, Bezos and the crypto bros got the royal treatment inside.

PARDONED: This disturbing video has always stuck with me. Albuquerque Head of Kingsport TN was sentenced to 90 months in prison for using a stolen riot shield to attack police officers. Thanks to President Trump, he will walk free.

Ugh. Not one day in. I was stuck in the capitol on 1/6/21. The attack was vicious, violent and an affront to our democracy and law and order. Trump’s decision to pardon is a grotesque abuse of authority and a betrayal of our democracy. Covering himself in shame on Day 1.

There’s no such thing as bad weather. Just inappropriate gear.

“There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” Especially when those boats are dredging Southport harbor.

Excited to be reappointed Ranking Member of the Intelligence Committee. It’s more important than ever that our agencies are performing rigorous, objective analysis while protecting Americans’ privacy and civil liberties.

Mike Turner is dedicated to national security and thoughtful oversight of the IC. His removal makes our nation less secure and is a terrible portent for what’s to come. The Constitution demands Congress function as a check on the Executive Branch, not cater to its demands.

Bringing $25 million home for a new Congress Street Bridge in Bridgeport! I’ve been working on this since 2009 – so. much. red. tape. Let’s get this built for the people of Bridgeport!

It seems a discussion is in order of the Laken Riley Act that I happily voted against on the House floor today. It is a bill that served no purpose than to stir up anger. But let’s quickly review why:

. @jahimes.bsky.social makes the case that when Donald Trump says something outrageous to get attention, it's because there's something else going on that he doesn't want to get attention.

CNN: Well, the way Trump pitches it is that when it comes to Greenland for example, it's for national security purposes. Is there any credence to that statement? REP. JIM HIMES: No. It's bananas. It's insane.

I can feel the economic anxiety lifting like the darkness at dawn.

You see. That’s. How. It’s. Done. (If you take seriously your oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. And care about the peaceful transfer of power in our democracy.)

Just got to the Chamber for the Electoral count certification. No rioters or insurrectionists out there. No police being attacked. No windows being broken. I guess elections have gotten much more fair than they were four years ago. #cutofflegsfroggoesdeaf

Annnnd, we’re off!

There is zero evidence to support this right now. Zero. My colleague is spreading misinformation. Is that the right thing to do under these circumstances?
