OH COME ON. NIH cancels a 34-year-old longitudinal study on women's health that started with 160,000 volunteers and continues to answer urgent questions about aging, heart disease, cancer & more 🧪 in @science.org

Depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, mania, iron deficiency… Women just had the vapors when I was a kid. Usually after blood letting they said they felt fine and didn’t need to be institutionalized.

The revamped COVID-dot-gov website is a "vivid example of how Trump and his allies are trying to rewrite the history of COVID, in a way that not only erases their own role in the pandemic's harms but seems likely to leave America more vulnerable to the next one." www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-turn...

It’s generally a good to study things that are killing us so we can avoid doing those things.

“FDA inspectors found serious problems at a Glenmark factory…”

An American citizen says he and his wife were detained for hours by US border agents when they returned to the United States after a short trip to Canada.

So we’re all getting vaccines, right? Right?

Reported earlier today that a new DOGEr, Roland Tenglong Shen, who works at Thiel-backed payments company Ramp, is now at Treasury's central payments hub. A request for comment through LinkedIn went unanswered and now Shen's LinkedIn profile has disappeared. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/rampi...

FDA inspectors found serious problems at a Glenmark factory in India that manufactured the recalled drugs. Another medication made there has been tied to deaths of U.S. patients. By @sheinvestigates.bsky.social

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read. He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

Late night Prospect: The CFPB mass firing leaves the agency without sufficient staff to fulfill its statutory goals or even priorities laid out by the agency’s acting chief legal officer a day earlier. It also puts some markets CFPB oversees at risk of malfunctioning. prospect.org/justice/cfpb...

I’m thinking of visiting my parents Easter weekend. Can anyone tell me if Tren de Aragua are threatening our supply lines north of the city?

I miss the old Marco Rubio who mostly posted bible quotes and the occasional “thoughts and prayers” message when there was a mass shooting.

EXCLUSIVE: A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.

Remember this when people die because they didn’t receive a tornado or storm surge warning.

How does Trump think he’s strong enough to win a trade war against China when he’s so weak he can’t get back one person that El Salvador already has in custody?

Heartbreaking

CDC has fired the people the cruise industry pays to track whether cruise ships are vectors (again) for global epidemics. www.cbsnews.com/news/cdc-cru...

If you want to understand the problem of "waste, fraud, and abuse" in federal health programs, you should read this great piece by Sarah Kliff and @bykatiethomas.bsky.social on scammy skin substitute companies. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/10/h...

In a firmly paywalled subscribers-only article, CNN reports Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, voted in Hawaii last year after signing a sworn declaration of Texas residency and claiming a homestead exemption in that state. www.cnn.com/2025/04/09/p...

ALERT ALERT ALERT MURDERBOT TRAILER THIS IS NOT A DRILL

🚨 JFC, per pool: Trump complained that the U.S. doesn't produce its own pharmaceuticals any more and talked about disparities in global prices. “We’re going to be announcing very shortly a major tariff on pharmaceuticals.” He said that will bring pharmaceutical production back to the U.S.

After Trump was elected the first time, there was also a lot of talk about making iPhones in the US. At the time, I co-edited the sci-fi outlet Terraform, and asked @timmaughan.bsky.social to imagine what such a future might really look like. With his permission, I'm republishing the story in full:

Not for nothing, but the two JPSS satellites seeing their maintenance deferred, and the previously suspended radiosonde launches, make up the largest observational impact on weather models...

Because, as authors will tell you, publishers big problem is publishers have too many resources to spend publicizing only the small number of books they have.

Donald Trump and Elon Musk are disrupting a breakthrough cancer treatment so they can fund tax cuts for billionaires. Tell your friends.

www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/u... “The night of the long knives.”

America just did a Brexit, didn't it.

Elon Musk and DOGE have taken a blowtorch to federal agencies. But the tariffs are a helpful reminder that it's Donald Trump who's fiddling while it all burns.

a heist movie but instead of stealing anything i just sneak into wherever the large hadron collider is and bop it with a wrench until we end up in a timeline that isn’t so fucking stupid

lol

You wanna bet Jared has the Saudi billions shorting the market right now and will learn exactly when Trump is going to relax tariffs to catch any rally? All the cabinet oligarchs are doing the same.

FDA planning for fewer food and drug inspections due to layoffs, officials say

Ew www.navalnews.com/naval-news/2...

I just love that this moment exists to perfectly explain why most people in America have no idea that increased tariffs are gonna be bad youtu.be/yuOHbyuanbY?...

Fascinating graph that I’ve never seen before - govt spending vs tax for age groups from the FT

I hope Sen Bill Cassidy, MD is feeling great about his vote confirming Kennedy. I’ll enjoy my daily dose of cod liver oil while I read his thoughts and prayers for kids dying of easily preventable diseases.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at The Jackson Laboratory and UConn Health have successfully discovered a molecular switch that can actually SHUT DOWN cancer growth signals and STOP tumor growth at the RNA LEVEL. The discovery could pave the way for a groundbreaking RNA-based multi-cancer treatment. 🧪🧵⬇️
