Not clear why those units were in OARO to begin with. It’s not clear this is harmful. It’s weird they did this bf the new COSS takes office.
comment in response to post
They are not getting fired. It’s just re-org. Probably a dumb one. OARO was a good idea but then turned into a stitch-up of components that don’t really go together
comment in response to post
Why would you ever do this before nominated commissioner takes office? Why bring in a heavy hitter if you don’t care about what he thinks about management structure? Dudek worked in OARO so perhaps it’s score settling.

These research centers support some of the finest social science academics in America (mostly economists) and train dozens of new scholars every year who will be focused on issues that matter to our policies on retirement security and disability for the rest of their career. Colossal waste of talent

Just fucking tell us what it says so we can all hate them equally
comment in response to post
The word quisling is from the last name of the Norwegian prime minister who capitulated to the Nazis. I have no doubt that will be the only fate for this fucking douche. Who else is gonna be a pathetic dudek?
comment in response to post
These research centers funded the research that found that automatic enrollment in 4O1k programs greatly increased participation. That was worth several trillions in private savings and plenty of fees for financial institutions. I would say the ROI is gonna stay positive for generations.
comment in response to post
Not exactly. These research centers were asked in the Biden admin to study disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, and income which had received no real attention over a couple decades. They also address lots of other key areas. They could have just sent NEW priorities but they’re dumb, dumb, dumb.
comment in response to post
No it’s not. These center receive a set of priorities from the administration each year ( and each 5 years). The last several prioritized equity and racial disparities research. This was new in the more than 20 yr history of this excellent partnership. The answer is new priorities not destruction.

JAG officers are not the final arbiters of legality. A JAG who approves an illegal order can find themselves in deep doodoo.

Firing a qualified black man and replacing him with a (by letter of the law) underqualified white man was very expected. Also, getting rid of the broad. Very expected.

I do think the US uses its military might to further our economic interests. I don’t think the plunder model is very accurate. Iraq is my weakest case

I have a sharpie I can lend you.

There was a point?

Above I included data from a GAO report that calculated total worldwide food assistance at around $15 billion per year for the five years 2014-2018. Probably significantly more expensive now.
comment in response to post
That over a five year period. So maybe $30 billion a year
comment in response to post
Total worldwide food assistance from 2014-2018 was about $75 billlion. Say it’s twice that now. $150 billion.

Because everybody in the world is hungry?
comment in response to post
Like how we do now in Greenland

All the natural resources we got from Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Grenada, Panama? And before anyone gets to excited we get 4% of our oil imports from Iraq (vs 60% from Canada).

I am not faulting you for not having the optimal list. No one has one. There doesn’t even have to be an official one. I would list them in order of importance and I would leave off anything that is not very popular. But you have the right idea
comment in response to post
Yes
comment in response to post
just the uniformed secret service component is over 1000 people (this does not include the plain clothes protective details). Are you suggesting Musk has 1000 security personnel?
comment in response to post
I disagree with some of the particulars on your list as well as the order but it is a very good idea. It should be called “Project Right F’ing Now”.

They are out of eggs by 10am bc that is a relatively cheap price. In my area DC, it’s about $8.00, but some brands occasionally are half that and they sell out fast.
comment in response to post
Are your chickens immune from bird flu? If your chickens got bird flu are you confident you are safe? Not trying to scare you but there is a reason egg prices are going up. The risk for a small area is less than a giant farm, but it’s not zero.

I would just say the name of the candidates instead of Democrats

It would be hilarious if they refused to ride on a Space X rocket until they turn research and science funding back on.

For most of them, it’s because they were preparing to retire anyway. They are firing plenty of people now. I can assure you almost none of those people feel good about that.

The President executes the laws the Congress enacts. The question is how much power should a President have to make laws, de facto laws. If the President can pick and choose whether to follow laws m, to spend appropriated funds, to ignore judicial decisions it disagrees with, that’s different.

Which means that a bunch of undocumented people paid payroll taxes but will never see any benefits based on them
comment in response to post
Again, no, they did not. Did they fuck it up. I say we all did. Deliberately? Of course not.
comment in response to post
Ok. It’s not true but you are free to believe what you want. Seems like the way of things nowadays
comment in response to post
The reason we are here is that Republicans are evil. That’s the only fucking reason.

I think this place is rolling in dough. Very expensive even if very good care.
comment in response to post
This place makes a lot of money. Good, but very expensive vet care.

PEPCO (DC area electric co) also announced they are waiving late fees and providing grace periods to pay bills.
comment in response to post
And what state is Washington DC in? You think MD state cops get to walk into Social Security and charge people with violating the Federal Privacy Act. People need to get out of there fantasy world.
comment in response to post
I think you made my point. The people on the inside guarding the system handed it over to the vandals. What security system defeats that? dogdoo kids have the authorization of the President. The folks who know better tried to stop them and were overruled. Maybe at NSA someone will take them out
comment in response to post
There is no way to secure data from the inside
comment in response to post
C’mon. They have been given government jobs and authority from the President to vandalize the bureaucracy. The head of OMB wrote the plan. He got lucky bc Musk volunteered his private army of hackers. Get your head around the fact that our President intends to destroy the Government.

I can’t believe it’s real. Good satire tho

hey, @kenmartin.bsky.social what is the plan to win the special election in FL 1 & 6 and NY 21? Folks out here wanna do something but we could use some info from leadership. Yeah?
comment in response to post
Ken Martin. Ken Griffin is the super rich asshole from Citadel
comment in response to post
Only contribute what you can afford. Also research the candidates. Maybe they have their own plan. If I were Ken Griffin I'd be sending mailers to every dem voter to remind them to get a mail-in ballot. I believe the deadline in FL is March 20 fro the election April 1. It's all about turnout

Just because Republicans are stupid does not mean we have to follow their lead. With respect to government programs an entitlement is "a government program that provides benefits to any individual meeting certain eligibility requirements."

Facilities are located around the country by where they are needed but also because of Congressional intervention. There are a bunch of agencies in West Virginia (e.g. Bureau of Public Debt, FBI crime lab) because Sen. Robert Byrd steered as much Federal dollars to his home state as he could. x 535
comment in response to post
I can think of a bout 5 private citizens who could afford to do this (at least temporarily). Lots of these folks will be applying to state governments anyway. Its not the same though.
comment in response to post
The perceived ideology measure explains about one quarter of the variation in the cuts, so there is plenty of unmeasured explanatory factors. The fork in the road was largely indiscriminate. They are too stupid/callous/arrogant/evil to know what people actually do before swinging the wrecking ball
