My favorite part of Matsumoto's work is its singularity. I think it's rare for filmmakers to develop an entirely new visual language, which he did.

Honestly, moving slow, it’s not too difficult of a read. I am just coming off of Gaddis’ Carpenter’s Gothic, which was probably the hardest 250pg book I have ever read. It’s all relative I suppose.

I think this is a much better discussion to be had than just disparaging the writer in totality. If you aren't an active participant in the work it's gotta feel pretty violating. I struggle w/ this a lot.

In subsequent years, I assumed Stamos was an asshole. In past years, I've realized I was likely lied to, and that the real asshole was Mike Love. A big realization for me. That old fart tried to make me hate John Stamos!
