It's not difficult to point to a success story at another club and say, "we should have signed him." That's a ridiculous use of hindsight. Why didn't Liverpool sign him before he went to Bournemouth, if it's that easy? Would have saved them a lot of money.

He's advocating for greater squad depth, but the trade-off is less individual quality. OK, squad depth is good, but do we qualify for the UCL or win the cup last season with less quality in the first 11? I don't think so.
comment in response to post
If we'd spent smaller transfer fees over a longer period of time, I don't believe we'd have qualified for the UCL or won the cup this season. You talk about signing cheaper, hidden gems as if it isn't massively difficult or inheritaly risky.
comment in response to post
So you would rather we'd been able to buy more players in the past 18 months but had not qualified for the UCL or won the cup?
comment in response to post
The outcomes appear to be that we've won a trophy and qualified for the UCL twice. You're critising decisions that have brought tangible success.

Oh, right, I had no idea prone meant face down. Just thought it meant you'd been knacked.
comment in response to post
This is what you would see if you they'd just give you a good kicking in a ballroom and you were lying prone on the floor.

Will they need to change their formation to accommodate him? I imagine you covered that in the video. I should probably watch it.

Had to read that a few times before I understood he hadn't done a 10k in 7 minutes. Bravo, young man!

I don't dabble in supposition or idle speculation. I deal in cold, hard facts.

That's a no then

I didn't deny anything. I asked if he'd ever publicly stated that.
comment in response to post
Has he ever actually stated this? Either way, it's not an unreasonable policy.

Younger players like Cordero have been signed from overseas. Minteh, too. It's just going to take a while for us to feel the benefits. Very difficult to identify a low price under the radar signing who can be a first team option straight away
comment in response to post
Howe was pivotal in the signings of Bruno, Tonali, Botman, and Isak, so I find it difficult to believe he has closed off the possibility of overseas signings.

I don't believe that restriction exists. Just an unfounded thing people like to trot out.

Ideally, we'd get a left footer, but I don't see many around who are good enough that we can realistically buy.
comment in response to post
I'd be all for McAtee. We need to stick to these younger, unproven players. We've had good success with Hall, Livramento, Gordon, and Botman. We're just not geared up yet to compete with the cartel for established stars.

Somebody makes up a completely false piece of information, and then people go on about how terrible this pretend thing is. It's so tedious.
comment in response to post
I didn't mean they deserved it. I think they just used up all their 9 lives getting to the final.
comment in response to post
I felt like Inter had that coming. They've had an amazing campaign to reach the final, but they relied heavily on their keeper.
comment in response to post
Not sure that's fair. Thought he did well defensively for the most part against Chelsea and Arsenal.
comment in response to post
He did. He was a massive fanny though. Could never see him tracking back or filling in at wing back like Murphy does.
comment in response to post
It was in the Coppa Italia.
comment in response to post
Still, a lot of forwards would kill for a 20-goal involvement PL season. Robert was the same, except even more frustrating with even better numbers.
comment in response to post
As frustrating as Murphy can be, he'd be nowhere near the worst player in the UCL. People like it's wall to wall elite clubs when, in reality, there's a decent amount of dross in there.
comment in response to post
I can't believe that could happen. I think Wilson and Longstaff will go. Probably Dubravka. Although the rules around homegrown players in the UCL could give Longstaff another lifeline.
comment in response to post
Ashworth hadn't been appointed for a few of those.
comment in response to post
Tonali, Trippier, Isak, Botman, Burn, Bruno, Hall, Livramento, Gordon all Howe signings.

Welcome to Wrexham
comment in response to post
Hope not. Could be invaluable again next season. Although I don't think he can play more than 20 games.
comment in response to post
Would he be more productive than Barnes or Gordon? His stats are awful.
comment in response to post
Nope
comment in response to post
Thought he held it up OK. Never got a chance to score. No more anonymous than Isak has been in recent games.
comment in response to post
He'll be there. I reckon his ommission today was partly tactical.
comment in response to post
We definitely don't want a situation where Forest have nothing to play for in their final game. Ideally, Villa fail to win at Old Trafford. By my reckoning, that would mean 67 would be enough for us.
comment in response to post
I was really hoping we wouldn't need to win that game. But it looks likely we will.
comment in response to post
It's a bit of a free hit. But if we get to 67, that means we definitely finish above any of the other 3 that fail to win their final game. So I think a draw still has merit.
comment in response to post
Bit of a shocker this one.
comment in response to post
You'd think that Man Utd and Chelsea must be on the brink. They just seem to keep finding loop holes though.
comment in response to post
Yes, I think you're right in the sense that they didn't forsee how much extra pressure it would put on their own transfer success rate. It's much harder to write off bad signings now. Also, there just aren't enough players to go around.
comment in response to post
I don't think it's PSR. The PL is so lucrative now that any club that establishes themselves gets access to significant transfer funds. The red cartel didn't like other clubs signing top players. PSR was a reaction to that.
comment in response to post
Well, yeah, but we all know the reason why investment has been constrained. If the Saudis had their way, we'd probably be challenging for the title now. Three years after the takeover, I don't see how we could have been any further forward than we are now.
comment in response to post
Where do we want to go? These are the players who've won us a league cup and have us on the brink of a 2nd UCL qualification in 3 seasons.
comment in response to post
Another Eddie master class. Maresca completely outmanoevered. Excellent performances given the injuries and pressure we were under.
comment in response to post
Must have been canny greasy chips those like 🙂
comment in response to post
It's possible they go in each direction for an inflated fee. £50m or something daft like that. Essentially, a straight swap that fixes Villa's PSR troubles and gets us a younger player in a position where we struggle to rotate.
comment in response to post
Part exchange for Jacob Ramsey, I reckon. Similar to the Anderson/Vlachodimos PSR fiddle.
