This is big. Far-right troll site Guido Fawkes has always claimed it isn't subject to UK libel law as it's officially offshore. Today it conceded that it defamed Dale Vince, making clear it it's subject to UK law. No more dodging scrutiny. Staines will have to play by the rules like the rest of us.

NEW: Just 6% of Gen Z say they actually want a dictator – not over half, as has been recently claimed. Our study finds only a very small minority of 13-27-yr-olds really feel this way, when their views and interpretations are tested with different questioning approaches 🧵⬇️

Old #FrogFaceFarage, comfortable in the company of rapists predators and misogynists. #SexualFelonRacistFascistLiarTRUMP

I have no words for this www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c7...

When I worked in UK academia I recall hearing of a Japanese man who was baffled at how Britain had decided to run its universities like firms. “Why? Your universities are excellent and your firms are terrible.”

I don’t care if they’re making the very best decisions in the history of policymaking—they’re NOT ALLOWED to do ANY of this.

US pulls back from gold-standard scientific climate panel www.nature.com/articles/d41...

To no one's surprise, UK newspapers are full of truly dreadful - and, at times, outright bizarre - "reporting" of the Climate Change Committee's new carbon-budget advice. For a sane and nuanced summary – with lots of charts - here's our detailed coverage... www.carbonbrief.org/ccc-reducing...

Trump says Zelenskyy set to visit White House on Friday to sign minerals deal What a sickening spectacle Richest country in the world bullying and intimidating a country in its hour of need to siphon of its precious resources to enrich billionaires www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

aint no way we cut medicaid and housing assistance so jeff bezos could buy this shirt

This is absolutely next level insane

Ukraine was easily Johnson's finest achievement. Obviously he's now decided to torch it, like the feckless vacuity he so truly is.

If people think that Trump is a joke, think again. Blocking the participation of US scientists in the IPCC process will have global consequences. Hard to know what to say about this...

An all-time favourite from the letters page of @vizcomic.bsky.social

This is climate arson, yes, but also the entire value proposition of Tesla, the reason for its insane stock price, is that it would end up the Amazon of electric cars: the only real game in town. Killing off non-Tesla electric car infrastructure is a gift to Musk.

The leader of France’s far-right quit CPAC over Nazi ideology. Meanwhile, Farage happily embraces the Nazi at the same event. Says a lot about champagne fascist Farage. #ukpolitics

‘Orwellian’ -a very clear statement from Dorian Lynskey @dorianlynskey.bsky.social in the Independent.

From Turkey to Hungary to Venezuela to Benin, firing civil servants and dismantling government departments is how aspiring strongmen consolidate personal power. Scholars share lessons learned from around the globe: #CivilService #autocrats #DOGE

The proposal for a US takeover of the Gaza Strip would disrupt almost every foreign policy objective the Trump administration has in the Middle East.

Nice one.

I'm halfway through a sabbatical dedicated to writing a book based on my yearly interviews with Mary Midgley from 2011-18 for @bloomsburyacad.bsky.social. I'm curious about which topics people are most interested in? Feel free to DM!

Lie after lie has been told this week about how the Ukraine war started, from the Kremlin and the White House. Here's our News Agents video essay which explains the truth, and spells out why Trump clings so close to Putin and lives in his warped reality. www.youtube.com/watch?v=cufM...

We are absolutely in a time when the fossil fuel economy feels emboldened to go on the direct offensive against environment groups www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

In today's "Euphemism Gazette".

One of the best things about February is finding rhubarb in my local green grocer. And now I know there’s a rhubarb festival 😍

Hurrah - Bluesky gets a mention! Turns out Ch 4’s “poll” about 52% of Gen Z asked would support a “strong leader” is, er, opaque to say the least & flies in the face of 8 other surveys in recent years Who knew? Private Eye

At 5.12 Bill Bailey suggests that it is appropriate to play The Star Spangled Banner in a minor key. At 5.32 he points out that this makes it sounds a bit Russian. How apt for today of all days. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ob5n...

In case anyone is still uncertain whether Trump and Musk are allied to Putin — @bylinetimes.bsky.social has been covering the Trump alliance for six years, and we cottoned onto Musk quite quickly

You can’t help but love @bylinetimes.bsky.social. Their monthly newspaper is superb. Written by experts in their field, with knowledge to impart, it is key to understanding the world today. Just look at the final sentence in this piece, written before Trump had even entered the White House

I'm tired of politicians & commentators telling us to understand Trump as a businessman cutting a deal or making a transaction. Kwasi Kwarteng did it this morning. It's total BS. Trump wants to dominate, to humiliate & degrade opponents, & corruptly enrich himself. He's a tyrant, not a businessman.

It seems apt that the USA was born under the reign of a real mad king (George III) and is dying under the reign of a wannabe mad king. Symmetry.

The official White House account just referred to Trump as a “king” and posted an image with a crown on his head. They’re not even hiding it.

In 1938, Nazi Germany held "peace talks" about Czechoslovakia with England, France, and Italy. The Czechs were not there. In 2025, Putin's Russia is holding "peace talks" about Ukraine with the US and Saudi Arabia. The Ukrainians are not there.

Republicans won the Senate despite Democrats winning more votes & representing more people. I repost this chart a lot, but we have a system of separated powers. Congress is a coequal branch of govt with its own democratic legitimacy, & Americans voted for a Dem Senate that could check the president
