I’m happy to read them against one another however! As for Foucault, I think the bigger tragedy isn’t that he missed an earlier encounter with the Frankfurt School but that he failed to recognize how much more he had in common with Habermas than with Adorno & Horkheimer

It was common in the US too! but the identification of Derrida’s deconstruction of the metaphysics of presence with Adorno’s immanent critique of metaphysical immanence always domesticates Adorno into the a-conceptual quietism Derrida retains & radicalizes from Heidegger—exactly what Adorno refused

Foucault also said that he probably wouldn’t have been able to write what he did if he’d read the Frankfurt School earlier, and he was correct! & yes Derrida gets about as close to ND as a Heideggerian could, I have to give him credit where it’s due
