Well, no one can accuse them of not practicing what they preach. Sigh. All White Manel.

I wrote this essay on the pleasure of making and enjoying art the hard way a few years ago. Now, as AI takes over so much creative work, it seems even more to the point: irinadumitrescu.substack.com/p/what-do-we...

So proud 😍3 weeks in a row @lucimcummings.bsky.social has got jokes on Breaking The News. This time it was even a joke about sportsball (and more predictably, death)!

Got some jokes in to #BTN! They made Lovely Husband laugh, if no one else 🙂 #AmWriting

Researchers have suggested that children who regularly eat fish could be more sociable and kind than their peers. Psychologists say it depends on what other pets they eat for afters. #BTNRejects #BTNNB

Mark Carney has hinted at wanting to diversify Canada’s trade away from the US and towards "more reliable" options – like professional poker, Bitcoin scams, or just setting fire to money. #BTNNB #BTNRejects

Some have argued that the Bond franchise is long past its best, but Amazon claims it’s still very much in its Prime. #BTNRejects #BTNNB

Proud to have my flash "Instructions for Planting" included in this amazing issue, with such talented writers' and artists' work. Thanks @writershq.bsky.social for inspiring the story, and to Jack, Jude and Cap'n Dave at Neither Fish Nor Foul. www.neitherfishnorfoul.com/issue-3/inst...

Enjoying the new 'Linux Terminal' #Debian VM that comes bundled with the March #Android update to my #Pixel phone. Especially now that I've found where to access the phone's shared downloaded files, and more importantly installed a decent #XSLT processor. @michaelhkay.bsky.social

Well, I thought this was funny. ;-)

👋 I'm a Federal Chief Data Officer seeking my next opportunity: ideally guiding an organization to thrive amidst changing technological and financial realities. If you know of anything for a senior leader who cares deeply and broadly, please reach out to [email protected].

There seems to be international collaborative funding for AHRC-NEH and AHRC-DFG but I've yet to see AHRC-SSHRC, which is a shame because there are people in Canada with whom I'd really like to collaboratively research. 😢 I suppose I should look around other international funding bodies.

Great episode this week! Available for your ears now via BBC Sounds 🙂 (Full disclosure - includes something by me.) www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Thrilled that my story 'Mary Elizabeth is Pupating Again' is in such great company! Thanks @karjon.bsky.social and @cherylmarkosky.bsky.social for choosing it, and congratulations to everyone else in this year's line up. I'm really looking forward to reading all your stories!

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It's off to strike I go... @newcastleucu.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I adore this article. It is an in-depth look at why me not being able to fix a typo destroyed my understanding of digital bibliography. So thrilled to see its final stages. 🩵💜❤️ I wrote this around the time I admitted a research position would never happen for me. This is def a great way to go.

Some very good points on what needs to be resisted.

Walking by this again.

The output from #LLMs for sustained academic writing still remains 'meh'. There are cases where student writing is far worse than that. But if they don't go through the process, then they'll never get better than 'meh'. Many of them don't care.

At the train station far too early for me, but with 30 minutes to spare for my train. Going to Cambridge to teach a LEAF-Writer workshop and give a public talk for Cambridge Digital Humanities. www.cdh.cam.ac.uk/events/39496/

Oh french television makers, you are drôle. Microsoufle Windows 95...

Another use for LLM AI like the senior "I can't remember the word, but I can describe it", is when your wife 'knows' a word in a foreign language that you don't recognise (though you were both once moderately fluent), but she learnt in spoken context as a child and so doesn't know how to spell it.
