I can't wait to go back to @booksofwonder.bsky.social ! #kidlit

It actually looks like a thing now! #Knitting

Just making a #padutch recipe like my grandma did.

Excuse me sir, that's my knitting.

Companies that use AI graphics to try to sell art lessons are immediately discredited in my book. #artteachers

Back in like 1998 there was a little CD store in our town that also sold Demeter fragrance. I bought their Gingerale scent. Recently my husband bought me some of their fragrances, one being gingerale. That scent nostalgia thing is real, isn't it?

Every day I do line up trivia with my students. Never thought I would have a controversial question. #gulfofmexico

I wrote this book in 2020 ... It still feels relevant. If you're feeling like Turtle today I hope you have a possum in your life to make you laugh. #Kidlit

Turned my doodle into a bunny.

Today in art teacher life... #Artteacher

Having my own bookmarks brings me intense joy. #Kidlit #Kidlitillustrators

Hey look it's a trailer for Robinson's New Thing! Available March 4!

A peek into my process! Meet Rosie from Robinson's New Thing! She got a makeover while working on the book and we went with the white dots and slightly fluted shell. The dots were made with a gel pen over watercolor. She's pretty small in parts of the book so she needed a bold design. #kidlitart

One of my students sprayed my wall with paint so I did this....

For the skies in Robinson's New Thing I used a new-to-me material, pan pastels. They allowed me to get some really cool gradients and textures that I'm excited to see in this book! #Kidlit #illustration #Kidlitillustrators

Art teacher life.

Robinson behind the scenes! Robinson carries a blue bag throughout the book for his treasures. This bag was originally green but the editorial team decided it needed a brighter hue. I painted blue over the green bags and now I love the blue! I even had a bag made to help me draw it consistently.

Hey #kidlit folks! My next book ROBINSON'S NEW THING comes out next month and I want to share some of the inspiration for one of my favorite spreads. This is the first image I painted for the book and I had a lot of fun painting all the things.

It's #worldreadaloudday and I got the read to three kindergarten classes from the Chicago area! It was so much fun!

Time for the Barnes & Noble pre order sale! Grab a copy of ROBINSON'S NEW THING! It's the perfect book for opening up conversations about being in the moment and enjoying time with your friends. @harperkids.bsky.social @barnesandnoble.com

Did anyone else read Goofus and Gallant as a kid and feel personally called out?

As a teacher I love when authors and illustrators make free resources to go with books. Here's a coloring page for my next book ROBINSON'S NEW THING, available March 4th. www.harpercollins.com/products/rob...

Today at school I got a paper cut and to avoid bleeding all over student work I grabbed a bandaid. This is what was inside. I think it's very special. It must mean something.

💫 DID YOU KNOW many picture books have a note on the copyright page about how the illustrations were made? They're reliably interesting + sometimes funny or poignant or odd. I had a multi-year #CopyrightPageArtNotes thread of them at the other place. I think it's time to restart on Bluesky.(1/?) 🔎

If you are using AI generated images to make resources for teaching art I'm calling you out. In the least you should have wording on your materials that state that you used AI. This is the thing that's going to make me leave my art teacher groups. So sick of it. #artteacher

Ever wonder what it's like to be an art teacher?

Hi it's #portfolioday ! I'm Julia Mills and I'm represented by @rebeccagent.bsky.social at Writers House. I'm an author/illustrator who works primarily in watercolor and digital collage. I draw lots of animals. I'm also a super fun art teacher!

Elite level lunch. #grilledcheese

Snow Day, no school. Knitting and drinking coffee. It's the best day ever.
