Bletchley Park code breaker Betty Webb dies aged 101

Albums that aren’t underrated, yet still astonish you with their sheer brilliance on the rare occasions you play them, suggesting on some level they are actually underrated, if only by you: an occasional series. #1:

Sometimes I reread this for no reason and feel ~275% better.

Not many things have made me feel older than realising that The Bends came out 30 years ago today. A typically excellent piece from @petepaphides.bsky.social

The lovely Alex Palou came to entertain the fans at @gpstpete.bsky.social Party in the Park and brought a very special friend with him. 🏆

Great to finally see this beauty in the flesh. Can’t wait to see it on the track tomorrow. @indycar.com @gpstpete.bsky.social

Wakes up, checks photos on phone to make sure this really happened last night. #QPR

One 𝙃𝙐𝙇𝙇uva night 😉

Word of day is ‘unasinous’ (17th century): united in stupidity. A riff on ‘unanimous’: which comes from the Latin for ‘one mind’. ‘Unasinous’ means ‘one ass’.

Insightful article by @ednewtonrex.bsky.social . There's simply no need for the govmt to sell out UK creative industries: "Lots of AI – the type the government cares about, such as in healthcare, science and defence – is not trained on the work of the world’s creators." 1/2

Safeguarding minister Phillips has told BBC's Newsnight that "disinformation" spread by Elon Musk was "endangering" her but it was "nothing" compared to the experiences of victims of abuse. She is “resigned to the lot in life that you get as a woman who fights violence against women and girls".

Day 24 of my motorsport advent calendar. The highlight of my motorsport year was Callum Ilott and Will Stevens winning the 6 hours (or should that be 8 hours?) of Spa-Francorchamps! A dramatic race saw the number 12 Hertz Team Jota Porsche become the first privateer to win a Hypercar race.

Day 23 of my motorsport advent calendar. 30 years after the tragic events at the 1994 San Marino GP, fans and drivers at Imola paid tribute to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger.

Day 22 of my motorsport advent calendar features three F3 drivers who are making the step up to F2 for 2025. Max Esterson moves from Jenzer to Trident, Luke Browning continues with HiTech and Oliver Goethe continues with MP Motorsport.

Day 21 of my motorsport advent calendar. Turn 3 was the scene of multiple incidents at the IndyCar Detroit GP but here it is being safely negotiated by Alex Palou, Alex Rossi, Will Power and Scott McLaughlin during Saturday’s practice.

Day 20 of my motorsport advent calendar. 2024 was another memorable year for Prema Racing – Teams Champions in F3, Italian F4, Euro4, FRECA and F1 Academy. Both their F2 drivers graduated to F1 for 2025 and they announced a full time two car entry into IndyCar for 2025. Exciting times ahead!

Day 19 of my motorsport advent calendar. On the grid with Norman Nato, Callum Ilott and the number 12 Hertz Team Jota Porsche before the Lone Star Le Mans race at COTA. Sadly, there would be no repeat of the glorious victory at Spa, a car failure putting an early end to their US race.

Day 18 of my motorsport advent calendar features Dino Beganovic in the support paddock at Imola. He would play his part in helping Prema win the F3 Teams’ Championship before moving to F2 with DAMS for the final 2 races of the season, scoring an impressive podium in the sprint race at Abu Dhabi.

Day 17 of my motorsport advent calendar. Pato O’Ward was fresh from the pain of missing out on Indy 500 glory but a week later he was still smiling and engaging with fans at the Detroit GP.

It has to be car 16 on day 16 of my motorsport advent calendar - Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari in the pit-lane exit at Imola and Silverstone and on-track at Silverstone.

Day 15 of my motorsport advent calendar features Callum Ilott during Lone Star Le Mans weekend at COTA, in the paddock on Saturday morning and at the two pit-lane walk autograph sessions.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE was released 78 years ago this week. One of the most beloved of all Christmas movies, and among the most popular films of its star James Stewart, the tale of how it was created is like throwing a lasso round the moon… 1/47

Day 14 of my motorsport advent calendar features drivers who raced in F1 this year but won’t be on next year’s starting grid – Kevin Magnussen, Logan Sergeant, Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.

Day 13 of my motorsport advent calendar. A pensive looking Marcus Armstrong heads for his pit-box before Sunday morning’s Detroit GP warm-up. He needn’t have been concerned – he would go on to score his first IndyCar podium that afternoon.

Day 12 of my motorsport advent calendar. Franco Colapinto won the F2 sprint race at Imola. The next time F1 and F2 were in Italy, he would be behind the wheel of the Williams, racing in F1 for the rest of the season.

Day 11 of my motorsport advent calendar features Jamie Chadwick on Detroit GP weekend – on track during Indy NXT practice; at the autograph session and on the grid before the race. Running in the top 5 until a puncture ruined her Detroit race, she would go on to win at Road America a week later.

Day 10 of my motorsport advent calendar. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri combined to deliver McLaren’s first Constructors’ Championship since 1998. Here they are exiting the pit-lane in their MCL38s during Friday’s practice at Imola and being interviewed in the Paddock Club on Saturday and Sunday.

Day 9 of my motorsport advent calendar featuring some of my favourite shots from this year’s racing trips. The Franklin garage rooftop provided a great vantage point to watch Friday’s Detroit GP IndyCar practice session. Here are Alex Rossi, Alex Palou, Marcus Armstrong and Colton Herta.

Day 8 of my motorsport calendar features Abbi Pulling, F1 Academy Champion and winner of 9 of the 14 races this season. Talented and confident, she is just as comfortable behind a microphone as she is behind a wheel. The GB3 championship awaits in 2025.

Well, I confess I wasn’t really expecting that. Great performance and totally deserved victory. #QPR

Day 7 of my motorsport advent calendar. Callum Ilott at the wheel of the race winning number 12 Hertz Team Jota Porsche in practice for the Spa 6 hours before handing over driving duties to Will Stevens.

Day 6 of my motorsport advent calendar. Smiling IndyCar drivers at the Detroit GP autograph session. Rinus Veekay, Scott McLaughlin, a cross-eyed Marcus Armstrong and series champion Alex Palou.

Day 5 of my motorsport calendar features 4 current drivers who will line up with new teams next season. Carlos Sainz leaves Ferrari for Williams; Lewis Hamilton takes his place after 12 years with Mercedes. Nico Hulkenberg moves from Haas to Sauber; Esteban Ocon leaves Alpine to take Hulk's place.

Day 4 of my motorsport advent calendar. Sebastian Vettel paid an emotional tribute to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger at the Imola GP. A series of donuts followed a lap in Senna’s 1993 McLaren MP4/8, before waving to the crowd with the Brazilian and Austrian flags.

Day 3 of my motorsport advent calendar features a happy and relaxed Callum Ilott at Friday’s autograph session after a top ten run during practice for the Spa 6 hours. Little did he know just how amazing his weekend would turn out to be.

Day 2 of my motorsport advent calendar featuring photos from my racing trips this year. Scott Dixon drove a typically masterful race to emerge from the chaos of the Detroit GP to claim a brilliant victory. #IndyCar

Day 1 of my motorsport advent calendar featuring some of my favourite photos from my F1, IndyCar & WEC trips this year. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton secure a British 1-2 in qualifying at Silverstone. In the race, George retired on lap 34 while Lewis went on to score a record 9th BGP victory.

Congratulations to the brilliant Abbi Pulling on winning the F1 Academy championship! And what a superb drive by Alisha Palmowski to finish P5 in her debut race in the series.

Three brilliant interviews about three brilliant songs.

Post a perfect album from the 90s that isn't Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden or Alice in Chains.

What do you think of Will's livery @carlysv5.bsky.social?
