this is an act of unspeakable violence. it benefits no one, it doesn’t move a number on a balance sheet. it only guarantees that every one of these incarcerated transgender people will be tortured.

To be clear: the brutal, prolonged torture and murder of Sam Nordquist for his trans identity was ruled "not a hate crime" by upstate NY law enforcement because it happened to a trans man. The #1 rule of hate crimes is they never happen to trans people. No matter how much hate is behind the crime.

A batch of photos from a trip my spouse and I took to the Apostle Islands last October. We were lucky enough to get there on the last day before everything touristy closed down for the season, so we didn't miss out on things like the boat tour of the National Lakeshore. Lots of faces in these. 🧵
