This is terrifying.

I see this all over, even in a lot of older adults who apparently slept through half their classes. I wonder if we even went through the same school, so sometimes it's a failure to want to learn. Her @sorayanadiamcdonald.com next reply is even more chilling, I'll repost it next

ALL states need to pass a utility law like this. Consumers should only pay for utility service, not marketing, investor relations, or lobbying. www.canarymedia.com/articles/uti...

Have mentioned this before, but the parallels with election administration are really striking: complex systems require a lot of specific knowledge. Outsiders immediately assume fraud to explain the stuff they don't understand rather than talking to someone who does.

so much wrong with this and the framing - obviously! - but also a great example of how certain media fixation with “coming up with a clever name for blatantly obvious shit/trends” ends up whitewashing whats going on and misinforming an audience. it’s a media pathology

Hedy and Harriet cuddled up. Hygge to the max with these little ones. #caturday

VERY funny, but it also almost made me cry, and not in a lol kind of way.

Huh. Worth thinking about and learning more. Anyone have any book recommendations? Fiction ok, it usually motivates further non fiction reading- ex, something interesting in a novel, I wonder if it's true, go to the library. I read Disgrace by Coetzee, was so disturbed I'm not sure I absorbed much

This seems plausible. I've doubled down on my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) contract for the upcoming season. I definitely want local farmers st stick around and stay in business

My children have pointed out, more than once or twice "no Mom, that isn't common knowledge ". So I'm a nerd who reads stuff.

My first and definitely last time working with the Los Angeles Times. Editing out the most urgent point of an OpEd in the minutes before sending to press while then also assigning a title and image that suggest an argument entirely opposite to the author’s clear intent is pretty shitty.

I want to point out that this is NOT a buy-out! Those who take the offer simply get permission to telework through September, at which point they lose their jobs. Media coverage of the details has been pretty misleading.

And Chicago has BlockClubChicago blockclubchicago.org

I am trying to cut back for a while on "What's Wrong With the Media, Chapter 4 Bazillion." But this CJR piece about/with @pkrugman.bsky.social is too important not to read Congrats to PK on speaking out and Charles Kaiser and @columjournreview.bsky.social on the story. www.cjr.org/analysis/pau...

I'm thinking a local literacy org, and maybe League of Women Voters. Because getting books into the hands of kids who don't have much access, and promoting live debates so people can hear what their politicians are up to seem like good steps in helping people to start thinking for themselves
