Yesterday was one of the darkest days in NIH history, all because Jay Bhattacharya was so outraged that he was criticized for a shitty serology study that he went all in on burning it all down. www.scientificamerican.com/article/nih-...

Today in our #stemcell & #genetherapy seminar series we are extremely fortunate to have Dr. Craig McDonald discussing his important work in clinical trials for #duchennes #DMD and other neuromuscular disorders. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

In a new Science study, cryo–electron tomography captures the in-cell architecture of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, illuminating how the coordinated action of molecular machines drives life’s fundamental energy conversion. Learn more in this week's issue: scim.ag/3FA3Ygq

From 2010 to 2016 (latest data I have ), NIH research contributed to EVERY drug approved by the FDA

In a science round table discussion yesterday, my NJ senator @kim.senate.gov suggested a strong argument for NIH and federal funding is global competitiveness. We US-based scientists should start weaving this into our narratives.

This was just announced in a faculty meeting at UC Davis and we are devastated. Hard to imagine that the people in the United States of America do not want cures for cancer and other nasty diseases that kill children and adults alike. Did they truly vote for this? 😢😢😢 www.latimes.com/california/s...

A friend of my compared gutting of federal agencies to a wrecking a car: if you remove 30% of the parts of the car, it does not go 30% slower. It stops working.

If you have a federal grant, I *highly* recommend going to this Friday's webinar on responding to grant terminations. Lisa Brown, former general counsel at Dept of Ed, will present along with other lawyers. Friday, March 21, 2-3 pm. More info & register here: www.linkedin.com/pulse/regist...

Today would be yet another good day for university presidents to loudly, collectively, & publicly start defending our institutions & industry. The silence is deafening & frankly, incomprehensible. What exactly are you waiting for? How many Columbias, Maines, & Johns Hopkins will it take?

Congratulations to Dr. Ambrosi and grad student Kelly Weldon of @UCDavisHealth for this important manuscript! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Harnessing the diversity and potential of endogenous skeletal stem cells for musculoskeletal tissue regeneration academic.oup.com/stmcls/artic...

Thank you Judge Kelley. 🙏 You have saved many lives. Kelley noted that the policy created an "imminent risk of halting lifesaving clinical trials, disrupting innovative medical research & treatment, & shuttering research facilities without regard for patient care." www.reuters.com/business/hea...

Friendly reminder: if you are waiting on something from a US-based scientist/reviewer/editor, please realize that we're barely making it through each day putting out non-stop fires and trying not to collapse into tears. We're trying our best, but things will take longer right now. Give grace.

“Organizations representing tens of thousands of scientists are speaking out to ask Congress to reverse extreme & damaging cuts to federal research funding & agency staff. Scientists across the USA are united in support for federally funded scientific research.” www.ucsusa.org/about/news/s...

I am an extremely peaceful person, as are the great majority of scientists and MDs, but very few people are speaking up for USA science & medicine due to other daily distractions. We are being gutted. Wiping out Science & Medicine in the USA is NOT the way to go. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Richest guy in the world telling us we can’t afford to have our government fund cancer research.

We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country. This Friday, where will you be? standupforscience2025.org
