I have three reviews to go for the Obs but today, after 180 of them, is my last column for OFM. So I thought I’d summarise my searing advice from the last 15 years: the wisdom, the provocations and the occasional stupidities. Enjoy. Or grind your teeth. I imagine Liverpool's are much the same. If you don't say the magic words, the team will collapse.

Am I alone in thinking a points gap has only narrowed (or expanded) after both teams have played their games?

Presumably these people are smart in some way, but they are also incredibly naive. Young programmer, ignore these fools!

Whoever signed this off needs to be removed from their position within the Labour Party.

These Musk guys in their 20s are banking on pardons they won't get.

This is the Martin Wolf/Dune crossover event I have been waiting for. www.ft.com/content/0ca2...

An article to elicit the response 'did an AI write this?'

Last year I bought a set of fancy headphones: brilliant sound but the playback kept cutting out and I couldn't work out why. Turns out the default setting is to pause playback if you say anything out loud. Or sing along.

Unfortunately, I'm beginning to mentally equate the term 'AI' with all the slop that's making the internet worse. 'AI' powers a lot more than just slop, but if it's widely associated with slop, people may think the government credulous for backing it so strongly.

Another win for the magic beans people.

What would be the real risk to the UK if government ministers publicly asked Trump to comment on Musk's 'interventions'? Without Trump's backing, Musk is just another white supremacist fantasist best ignored rather than discussed. With it, we're in a different place altogether.

The in-depth article attached to this post is well worth a read. I have found it hard to articulate my thoughts - really, feelings - about (aspects of) AI without sounding like a fuddy duddy. This is much more compelling than anything I've managed to say...

There are still people on X - and not on Bluesky - that I'd like to hear from. I've now downloaded my post history & deactivated my X account but it's a wrench to lose their voices. (Turns out my red line was 'genocidal rape apologist')

SCORPION: Can I sit on your back so we can get across the river? SCORPION 2: OK *they go into the river* SCORPION: Hang on, we're sinking SCORPION 2: Yeah, I can't swim, I'm a scorpion SCORPION: omg you know what this is BOTH: This is a woke globalist frog conspiracy *they sting each other*

I can't get my head around how the researchers at Meta concluded there was a demand for this from humans. (Unless 'demand' is solely measured by the number of humans telling these bots to f*** off.)

My eldest discovered this terrible truth because Amazon insisted on a very wide default notification strategy that included the kids' kindle fire tablets. Once he'd received from Santa a notification gift, the jig was up.
