What a fun evening! Thanks to Germán for an insightful dive into unmoderated user testing, to Bigeye for hosting this month’s event and to everyone who came out in-person and online. https://meetu.ps/e/NVCw9/1HQT/i

Praise Kier! This Lumon Board Speaker print is a perfect enclosure for the first-gen Echo Dot I keep on my desk. makerworld.com/en/models/10...

Looking forward to this topic, and to trying out a new venue! I’ve attended several Creative Mornings events at Bigeye in Orlando, so I’m sure it’ll be a great spot for DOUX. https://meetu.ps/e/NVCw9/1HQT/i

Tried to catch up on design validation at the end of a busy meeting Monday. When I hit a 2FA prompt, I pulled my wallet out of my pocket instead of my phone.

The work is mysterious and important. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRnDYB28bL8

New week, fresh sheet. Last month, @cameronmoll.bsky.social was kind enough to send me some of his do-its sticky task pads to try out. They've completely replaced the assorted post-its that usually litter my desk. Check them out at: shop.cameronmoll.com/product/do-its

For as well-camouflaged as male Eastern Fence Lizards are on top, the bright blue (or sometimes turquoise) patches on their ventral side are always a surprise. From our hike this morning at Oakland Nature Preserve.

YOU KNOW DID WRONG

What a fun night! I learned so much workshopping strategies for getting ongoing generative research programs running in different industries and orgs.

I was looking for an excuse to tinker with Pixelfed’s API, so I set up an automation to cross-post photos there from my Untappd check-ins. 🍻 https://pixelfed.social/jasongraphix

And in the same weekend, an adult racer. She caught and released this one at Maitland Community Park.

We found an adorable baby black racer on our walk this morning. 🐍

Maybe this is all just an ORTBO?

There's just one week to go until our February @douxmeetup.com event. This month, I'll be leading a workshop on generative UX research and sharing lessons learned from launching an ongoing user interview program at Sprout Social. Join us online or in person here in Orlando on 2/13!

Set up a self-hosted https://freshrss.org instance tonight to add a few feedless design blogs to https://teamdesign.team. Still no luck scraping https://design.google though. I wish they’d add an RSS feed.

I can always count on Creative Mornings for a Friday shot of inspiration. Jim Hobart & Michaela Moen led us on a fascinating journey into the world of underwater photography for this month’s Orlando chapter meetup.

We had a fun evening and a great discussion about problem statements at tonight’s Downtown Orlando UX meetup.

Is January over yet?

I just realized that the first Creative Mornings Orlando event of 2025 is the morning after our DOUX Meetup. I’ll be at both! https://creativemornings.com/talks/jim-hobart-michelina-moen

Two months ago, I imported all my past tweets with: github.com/marcomaroni-... I love that @bsky.app allows you to import backdated content. I don't love how the dates on those posts are displayed. The timestamp should be the archive date, and you should see in the feed that a post was imported.

Do you also peel oranges like this or are you normal? 🍊

Can't wait for next week's @douxmeetup.com event! It feels like a year has passed since the last one.

OK, they still Go https://youtu.be/MOEULOSVNK4

A fresh edition of https://sidebar.io just landed in my inbox. So glad it’s back!

This is the best analysis I've seen of the current UX job market. @jmspool.bsky.social's latest is a must-read for anyone in the UX industry, not just those currently job hunting.

"Design is an expression of hope. It says, “Yes, this is a problem but there is a better way. Lets try to build it.” This means there is no such thing as a hopeless designer. Why? To be hopeless means you are no longer able to design anything."

After hearing that Meta was blocking links to Pixelfed, I immediately tested it out and the posts stayed up. I’m happy for Pixelfed that it was short-lived. https://www.engadget.com/social-media/meta-admits-it-deleted-links-to-decentralized-instagram-competitor-pixelfed-194624098.html

Exploring additional 3rd party tools for Bluesky this morning, thanks to this awesome list from @fishttp.website: github.com/fishttp/awes...

@deck.blue is the Bluesky client app I knew I needed but hadn't thought to look for yet. Thanks for the PSA, @andrewhinton.bsky.social

We need an open social web now more than ever. Cross-posting requires an active presence on each network and bridging is just a one-way, band-aid solution. People should be able to follow, be followed by, and interact with users across platforms, from a singular social identity.

Remember when Zuck was the most circled person on Google+? Oh how the tables have turned.

What an inspiring spot to count down the last few hours of 2024. Well, it was until it started pouring on us. Happy NYE, y’all!

Exploring the Research Triangle in NC for the last week of winter break and this mid-century modern gem is our home base.

Pre-dawn runs in heavy mist are magical. Every tiny droplet that hits your eye creates ephemeral halos around the streetlights. It’s what I see in my mind whenever I hear the intro to “Such Great Heights”.

Hey #Orlando friends, we finally tried KŌRI in Mills50 this afternoon. So good!
