Yeah I get that. I just don’t see what the state has to gain by sending the patents to prison unless there was some underlying abuse or neglect separate and apart from this incident.

Yeah, but there’s a difference between a “tut-tut, be better” scolding and “doing actual prison time” after your kid dies when you did nothing more than millions of parents have done for centuries- sending their kids alone to the market.

I don’t have kids but it seems a bad precedent to assume any time a kid dies without their parents around they were negligent. If a parent was there and the kid still bolted into traffic would they be charged?
