Tillis and Collins losing (and Dems holding onto their open seats) would give them 49 Senate seats. In an environment where sentiment against Trump/Musk has turned more negative and Dems control the House... plausible way to stop the bleeding starting Jan '27

2 things come to mind:
-Feeling left out and derided by perceived elites was the foundational spark of Trumpism a decade ago
-Pursuing policy, comms and discourse that prioritizes seeing the other side suffer and flounder is the calling card of MAGA - we need to be (much) better than that

We go to far upstate NY every year for July 4th (close to longest day of the year) and it's light up there until almost 9pm, it's really incredible.

It's genuinely 20-30x safer to travel by subway than car, in terms of fatalities.
Certainly there are crime and cleanliness issues that need to be addressed, but the way to do that isn't throwing up hands and saying the subway is a death trap!

I know what you mean but this is not how songs work lol. The rhythm section is playing under/during the solo, that's how the solo is able to happen!

Probably pays to be more granular about the electorate. 30% are core MAGA ppl who will never budge and will blame the Saucer People for everything wrong.
But the marginal Trump voter *will* be moved by CoL and Quality of Life shifts that will happen! Dems just need to be a sensible alternative.

USAID is such an interesting example. It was, at best, poorly managed and could have used some serious reform.
It would have been a very popular bipartisan thing to reform it, new leadership etc, and say we're doing good more efficiently now. But that is not in any way what Trump is interested in.

It is an open field as to who will run in '28, will be interesting to see the various territories that get staked out.

Bull case for Dems is taking back the House in '26, then 49-51 Senate but you have Trump who isn't popular outside of core MAGA base (and/or he's incapacitated/out of the picture with health issues), so some Rs are willing to make deals to get to 51 votes
comment in response to

If the trend continues it's a strong indicator that Dems can take back the House.
Senate will be tougher, but w/ an anti-Trump environment and D midterm turnout advantage, 49 seats in the Senate may be doable. 50 would require winning in OH which is probably not happening even in a D+5 environment

Honestly if you want him to lose power, this is probably the single most impactful thing he could do to bleed support.

She wants to appear moderate and not anger voters in swing districts, which are numerous in NYS which has tons of 53-47 type districts.
Dems retaking the House next year is kind of the only hope against the insanity. I don't agree that removing Adams has this effect, but that might be her reasoning

He asks the question stupidly and reddit posts are maybe not the best way to source quotes, but...giving the human costs of Musk's insanity more attention in a pub with broad reach like The Times is probably good!

I was like, regrettably this is a really good idea.
Overall you'd have to couple it with longer before/after All Star Wknd breaks, which would mean....fewer regular season games

My Lovin was 33 years ago (1992). 33 years before that was 1959, when the top songs were Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife" and Paul Anka's "Put Your Head on My Shoulder"

Unfortunately I don't think this is going to move the needle for the median voter, it's too abstract
What will turn ppl against Trump is:
-Rise in CoL with Trump obviously to blame (tariffs, pulling funding)
-Elon coming for social security and Medicare

Wild misreading of what music is about and why Kendrick is one of the great artists in music history.
I can sort of see the point that the Super Bowl halftime show, singularly, could be this more generic mass appeal thing, but that's obviously not what they signed up for with Kendrick.

The parking lot of the Sunset Park, Brooklyn Costco on Sundays is a genuine Mad Max situation.
You would not believe what the combination of an NYC-sized parking situation and large multi-generational Chinese and Hasidic Jewish households does to a Costco.

Stop paying attention to them and they go away!
