WOW. Rep. @jayapal.house.gov says CBP's internal affairs department found that a Chinese woman who had overstayed a visa was arrested by Border Patrol and hung herself in a cell. She wasn't found for two hours—even though the records reported multiple welfare checks (suggesting records falsified?).

This is the thing. Manufacturing jobs 100 years ago were dangerous, precarious, and poorly paid. Manufacturing jobs 70 years ago were a golden ticket to the middle class. The jobs didn't change. What changed was the New Deal and unions.

The whole point is to ruin farms…a fire sale on farmland that can be sold to corporate farms who can pollute the water and air with impunity. There will be no one left in these communities to demand these corporations be regulated or pay taxes.

I cannot understate how appalling and helpless it feels as a Jew that this is being done under the guise of fighting antisemitism.

incredible website lmfao

The administration is making its way through their list. The only way to successfully respond is to fight it as a united front.

fuck you make me

I do the work I do now because I was able to participate in a six-week NEH Summer Workshop on Human Rights at the CUNY Graduate Center in 2006. It was absolutely transformative for me as a scholar and a human being. That's precisely why the Trumpists want to kill funding for NEH and the humanities.

Don't worry guys. Even if the markets crash and burn, the Trump family, Elon, and Howard Lutnick will be fine! They have enough money to make it through.

They are basically private-equitying the entire economy. Getting rid of the assets, distributing the proceeds amount themselves, and the next stage is liquidation - leaving everyone else to deal with the consequences.

This part of the Tufts declaration somehow warms my heart the most: a full-throated defense of Rümeysa Ötürk's op-ed criticizing the Tufts president, signed by the Tufts president! This is how it's supposed to be!

NEW: Tufts files a declaration in support of Rümeysa Öztürk: "The University has no information to support the allegations that she was engaged in activities at Tufts that warrant her arrest and detention." www.tufts.edu/president/sp...

Is it impossible to write a headline that conveys the truth that Trump doesn’t give two shits about “antisemitism” and is clearly using the issue as a pretext?

A reminder that collapsing the economy is not an unintended consequence of autocracy, it’s a feature.

It looks like they just fed their 'model' into a standard dataset to get the tariffs - hence they have ended up 'recognising' Taiwan and tariffing uninhabited islands. It looks like this is the dataset they used www.census.gov/foreign-trad.... And it's certainly the one ChatGPT links to ;)

If you look at Annex I to Trump's tariffs EO, the list of "Countries and Territories" is much shorter than the list distributed to reporters. It doesn't include all the uninhabited islands, but does still break ground in recognizing Taiwan as a country. www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

"Trustees aren’t academics – and they’re often political wolves in sheep’s clothing.... How, we ask, can people be entrusted with running a university when they have no lived experience with or understanding of its core functions and aims?"

Jewish students at Columbia have chained themselves to a gate (already locked) to protest ICE detentions of student protestors. They accuse members of our board of trustees of providing information about students to ICE and are demanding accountability.

The goal is to destroy the economy. The rationale comes afterwards

Hahahaha. It’s all too predictable. The bizarre ordering of countries seems like a giveaway.

Guess where they got their weird trade deficit math from?

You know these fools used grok or some other dumb LLM to calculate the tariffs.

james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country "...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

The stupidity in Trump’s new tariffs is apparently limitless. He has introduced a 10% tariff on the British Indian Ocean Territory. The only inhabited island there is Diego Garcia, home to US service personnel. TRUMP HAS PUT A TARIFF ON A US MILITARY BASE 🤡

Incredibly, this appears to be true. We tariffed our own (jointly operated with the UK) military base.

Ahhhh. I was *very* confused about the ordering!!

Trump Says Recession Unfortunate But Necessary Step To Get To Depression

This Trump administration is really packing in all of the worst in their Eras Tour. Gilded/Machine Politics Era: corruption Progressive Era: obsession with “efficiency,” eugenics, and hatred of immigrants Great Depression Era: economic crash

Princeton has announced that it is considering selling approximately $320 million of taxable bonds. The bonds are a way for the University to raise short-term funds. The major credit-rating agencies rate University bonds AAA, the highest level of creditworthiness.
