Many people don't know that M. Night Shyamalan did a rewrite of R. Lee Fleming Jr's script—which at the time had a more hostile Rachel Leigh Cook—adding a twist that Cook was actually "all that." The studio LOVED the friendlier Cook, but HATED the twist, and demanded she be pleasant from the start.
