This is a very unusual pattern for COVID. I'm really curious as to what is driving it.

So if I was at work and there was a life-threatening emergency and I just posted about it instead of taking actions to fix it, I would rightfully be sued and probably lose my license. Must be nice to be a democratic congressperson.

In *this* household we’re celebrating Tinsel’s 4th anniversary. I fostered Tinsel when she was a bag of bones. She was visibly old, stinky, & nobody wanted her. I figured given how rickety she was, she’d be alive < a year, so I just adopted her. Here she is 4 years later, no longer stinky & plump.

SoCal friends: Many animal shelters are overwhelmed from people dropping off beloved pets they can't take with them as they flee. Please consider donating and fostering. Pasadena Humane is one such org. Contact your local animal orgs to see if they need help. pasadenahumane.org/eaton-canyon...

Pretty amazing that nonprofit Watch Duty -- which says it has 150 volunteers working around the clock to track wildfires -- has become the most trusted source of information on LA fires. Operated by retired/volunteer firefighters, dispatchers, and reporters. Real people. www.watchduty.org

In our study we showed how angry neutrophils are massively entering the brain after #COVID infection, which is associated with Blood-Brain-Barrier disruption & Neuroinflammation. The photo below shows neutrophils infected with SARS-CoV-2. More data coming! www.cell.com/cell-reports... #NeuroCovid

If you are sick & have to be out & about, especially in a crowded indoor space or on public transit or an airplane, please don’t be an asshole. Wear a damn mask. The amount of coughing, snorting, & sneezing coming from all directions on the last flight was gross. I was one of only 2 people masked.

When I was a child, I learned that the Constitution didn’t apply to people like us. I said the Pledge of Allegiance from inside a barbed wire camp, the words “with liberty and justice for all” wholly meaningless. But I did not give up on America. I’ve spent my life fighting for its ideals.

24 November 1903 | A Czech Jew, Robert Glück, was born in Prague. He was deported to Auschwitz from Theresienstadt ghetto on 28 September 1944. He did not survive.

Since Nancy Mace is in the news, I'll post the one thing that was enjoyable about my time on Twitter:

And just like that, they no longer care how much your groceries cost.

The truth is, none of us really know what the next four years will look like. It’s incredibly difficult to predict what happens next. It does not feel good.

Some thoughts: 1. Many, many Secs of HHS (including Biden’s) are lawyers 1a. But almost all have had executive experience, including most w/experience overseeing some aspect of a state health system 2. No secretaries of HHS are perfect 2b. But to my knowledge none have been labeled as …

Health leads the list of things people worry about. These concerns are all ameliorated with functioning public health systems & partnerships.

I understand that the new Department of QAnon will be headed by either MTG or Boebert. My money is on MTG.

Why is RFK Jr such a disaster for public health? Because when you sacrifice public health at the altar of conspiracy theory, innocent people die - just remember Thabo Mbeki's AIDs denial policy let 350,000 innocent painfully and needlessly.. youtu.be/SitRrMFFUS8

I’m a public librarian in a degenerating democracy, and I am pleading: Care about your library. Use it. See what programs and events it offers. And pay attention to its governing body. See who the trustees are. Consider running yourself. Libraries will need all the community support they can get. 📚

If others are less focused on the democracy beat these days, don’t fret: Law Dork is here. I’m covering the courts, with skepticism and without false neutrality, and (obviously) linking to the documents so you can check things out yourself. Subscribe now. www.lawdork.com/subscribe

By now many of you are probably well aware of the H5N1 "bird flu" epidemic sweeping through US dairy cattle. How on earth are we not deploying wastewater testing? Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2024/04/24/o...

Question a public editor might ask whoever wrote this headline: What is an example, in US political history, of *any* trend being "guaranteed" to ensure an electoral result? So why does it make sense to frame the 2024 "economy is good but 'feels' bad" phenomenon this way?

Here’s an account to follow and share widely

Apartheid Clyde believes “illegals” are somehow voters Again, he’s not just racist. He’s also mind-blowingly stupid.

The GOP is such a well functioning party they can't even impeach a guy on completely made up charges they came up with.
