Bravo @plos.org! US exec orders "stand in direct conflict with our core values, our mission, edit policies" "PLOS will not compromise on issues of scientific rigor & editorial integrity... we seek diversity because more expert voices make for better science" theplosblog.plos.org/2025/02/plos...

I think the plot has been lost a little on what DEI is and how it’s implemented. I wrote a piece about why DEI matters and how it actually allows meritocracy to thrive. neuwritesd.org/2025/02/20/m...

#Neuroskyence educators - looking for ideas on how to broach the topic of science funding with your students? @analog-ashley.bsky.social shared tips and ideas in @thetransmitter.bsky.social from educators, incl. our own @rpenton.bsky.social! 🔗 www.thetransmitter.org/how-to-teach... #iteachbio

The UC system released guidelines related to immigration actions on campus. Key points for those of us who work on UC campuses: 1. Our police officers should NOT be working with immigration authorities to remove students. www.universityofcalifornia.edu/frequently-a...

BREAKING NEWS: The development follows a federal judge's order Tuesday that temporarily blocked the effort to pause federal payments for grants and other programs.

This is going to dismantle so much good, important work. 😔 www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/u...

Petro, in 2021: “At NASA and Kennedy Space Center, our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility has been paramount to mission success.”

The thing that’s most striking about this is that they set up an e-mail account specifically for people to report on each other for any attempt to implement “DEIA or similar ideologies” and threatened “adverse consequences” for NOT reporting.

I tried to look up the f99/k00 DSPAN and got this.

This is so sad

Step 1) find your rep www.congress.gov/members/find... Step 2) send an email or call their office Step 3) tell them that federal spending on scientific advancement is the best hope we have to “win against china” or whatever these guys are obsessed with these days

Instead of just reading summaries on news sites, I highly recommend going through these executive orders and really absorbing the intent and language. It's fucked. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

www.whitehouse.gov/presidential... It is of greater importance now for individual labs to open career pathways for marginalized peoples in research as programs being to be hamstrung

People asking “what can we do”? Good advice to enact accountability in our scientific societies. Use the power you have in the spaces you can. Keep pushing for 1) gender inclusive and or single use restrooms 2) inclusive pronouns on registration portal 3) ensure code of conduct is up to date Etc

Thank you to the UC San Diego Mentoring for All initiative for the Mentorship Program Award!

thanks to my PI for the paper copy of our Colors of the Brain article! first thing in the issue 🤩

I would like to speak up today for the trans community. You see, I know a bit of what it’s like to be politically scapegoated. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, suddenly anyone in America who had any amount of Japanese ancestry became suspect. Politicians preyed upon ignorance and fear. /1

NIH funding generated $2.46 for every $1 funded in 2023. Important info for scientific advocacy in the years ahead- science is a quantifiable investment, not just a cost. H/t to @nicolecrust.bsky.social for sharing! #AcademicSky #PsychSciSky #NeuroSkyence www.fiercebiotech.com/research/rep...

Thrilled to share that I was selected as a 2024 L’Oréal USA For Women In Science awardee! So grateful to L’Oréal & AAAS for the research & @storiesofwin.bsky.social funding 🧠💜 & for the opportunity to meet women leaders in sci/gov/business in DC last week! t.co/E0M8Qj4HlD

One of many reasons we started www.changetechnically.fyi And why I commit the extensive effort & emotional labor it takes to do public speaking to tech audiences on psych www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLJC... And why my lab publishes public workbooks developer-success-lab.gitbook.io/code-review-...

I came across a quote in an article, which I will paraphrase: the ultimate goal of neuroscience is to model the brain and derive laws that define the brain’s computational abilities. Statements like this are common and presented as self-evident, but I think they are wrong.

Think I’m gonna call bluesky ‘twitter’ and posts ‘tweets’
