that demi speech was like watching a bunch of kids wobbling around at girl scout ice skating night and then an olympics qualifier casually steps out onto the ice

A non-LOTR character who could resist the One Ring

Grading supplementary exams while on annual leave…

Bashar al-Assad’s biggest mistake? Not going on Joe Rogan.

Melbourne right now.

Curious about the drama in South Korea? This sheet pan gimbap with banchan will have you declaring martial law in your kitchen!

Bluesky was invented by Ezekiel Bluesky, a polish immigrant who wanted to create a platform horny enough for gay people, but not so horny that it couldn’t be viewed at work. Modern scholars believe he failed on both counts, but the fruits of his labor exist for us today

Finally got around to potting the new Lobelia sprouts around the edge of my Camellia today.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Show me a picture on your phone that has your energy that isn’t a selfie.

Conclave but it’s a bunch of econ professors trying to avoid being assigned the job of Department Chair

Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) against women is a major public health and inequality concern. It's not clear what causes it or how to reduce it. Gaby Deschamps' JMP considers that IPV is positively correlated with motherhood, and asks if we can understand why. www.gabrieladeschamps.com/research

We still have a relatively poor understanding of the relationship between evidence and policy. Program evaluation in particular is often motivated by a desire to make policy better. But how effective is program evaluation itself?Michelle Rao's JMP tackles this question. www.michellerao.com/research

Obsessed with Emily Watson’s performance as Valya Harkonnen in Dune: Prophecy. Could do with less nightclub scenes tho.

My oped in Times Higher Education today: The Australian student loan HECS debt write-off is regressive and unfair to taxpayers #academicsky #highered #hecs #auspolicy #university #studentloans #aushighered

Lobelia seedlings are doing well. Should be ready for potting in a week or two.

Me trying to explain the difference between disinflation and deflation to people.

Potted up my cymbidiums. Looking forward to their flower spikes in a year or two assuming I don’t manage to kill them beforehand 🫣🫣🫣

sorry but I’m fucking furious that they’re going after Sarah McBride and implying she’s a sexual predator while electing DONALD TRUMP and appointing MATT GAETZ

This is the vibe I bring to the classroom.

Nooooooo!

I can’t put into words how deeply disappointed I am in this Labor government. They vaporised their political capital and resources on a bunch of ill conceived schemes and after two and a half years, all we got was bupkis and a whole lot of anxiety and loss for us higher ed workers. SO Infuriating.

No international student caps and the Alan Jones arrest got me feeling:

It was the blurst of times

Off to wrap up the last bit of exam grading

First hydrangea harvest

I’ve named the Camellia on the left Deborah Vance and the one on the right Elisabeth Sparkle
