El País de España has the best reporting of the situation I have read so far. It is in Spanish but I imagine you can translate it.

No one knows and neither gov is sharing detail. But it is likely we won’t see military planes flying to Col, Mex, or Brazil anytime soon or ever again. The US will have to follow all established protocols for deportations, so they will likely use commercial flights instead.

To me, this demonstrates that the military flights were done only to scare latam nations into submission. However, the fact that Mexico was not threatened like Colombia was demonstrates that Trump is cognizant that Mexico and a unified Latam is a major threat to his ambitions.

Let’s hope that Colombia’s response inspire other countries to take a strong response or better a coordinated international response to Trump’s threats.

This was no victory for Trump. A Trump victory would have meant universal acceptance of his actions. The strong response from Colombia—even if short-lived—was already a defeat, especially coming from a country Trump might dismiss as a “shithole country.”

While Trump claims victory because Colombia will continue to accept its nationals, President Petro and the Colombian government emphasize that the U.S. will now abide by the agreements and respect the dignity and humanity of the Colombian people.

The U.S. violated these agreements by using military planes and disregarding the humanity of those being deported.

The issue is the US using military planes and the deplorable and inhumane conditions in which HUMANS were kept in those planes. This is about human dignity and human rights, not immigration. In all previous deportation flights commercial flights were used not military planes.

Also, the main point of my comment was that raids happen everywhere. Not just in particular states. They can even happen in “sanctuary” states/cities, it is just a little more complicated as they don’t generally have the support of local law enforcement in these states/cities.

That is true, what changes is the number of raids, the size, and where they are carried out. Raids to places of work are uncommon and major raids that lead to hundreds of people being deported are even less common. However, this became common during Trump’s presidency and are likely to return.

The wealthy don’t support authoritarian parties; they create them. This pattern has been evident since at least the time of the French Revolution.

I’m not saying there was no Russian campaign, obviously there was. But it was US companies, politicians, and people that allowed this to happen. There is no Cambridge Analytica without Meta. Also, that was 2016, this is 2024. I can’t believe you are still talking about Russia in the Musk era.

This is another problem of the US, we are incapable of seeing our own faults. Everything bad is always caused by an outside power, never us.
No, Rusia doesn’t own FoxNews, CNN, Newsmax, etc. So while some propaganda did come from Rusia, most was created here by USians for USians.

Trump is doing what neither the USSR, China, the EU, nor any other global power has managed to do: end the U.S.-led global order. Ironically, the very organizations he hates were established to enforce US global dominance.

Actually, it happened a lot during his last administration. ICE carried out raids in every state. I remember a major raid to a chicken farm in the Midwest that broke hundreds of families, depopulated a town, and destroyed the local economy. So, this is not hypothetical, this will happen.

Yes, they will put all immigrants in concentration camps and will force them to work for free. This already happens in the USA, so all they need is expand and create new labor camps/prisons.

It is easier to fake large crowds indoors than in the open air. Still, I’m sure Trumpa will say a billion people attended his inauguration.
