We filmed in the swimming pool Aubrey trained in as a child. Swimming lanes
āYou already did the jump. This is the falling. Youāre doing the fallingā

When Iām filming Pam in the kitchen.
I keep my reframe of the camera and pan in, in the edit. I want to show you that this is happening in real time. That Iām experiencing it with you the audience.
It could have been cut out. It would have been neater, slicker. But it wouldnāt have been as close

Iām so grateful Pam, Aubreyās mom is in the film. She initially said no, but over 4 years of filming (thanks pandemic) she said yes.
Her openness to thinking about the role she had in Aubreyās life & her ability question the past was incredible.
I love both Pam & Rusty. The film is about family

We (me and producer Suzanne Alizart) used the quote from the film
āLearn something, get angry and have a good timeā
(itās a tweet about @maintenancephase) as the approach to taking @yrfatfriendfilm into the world direct to audiences
We wanted to learn as much as we could and it had to be fun.

The incredible score that @taracreme.bsky.social wrote. Seeing it recorded live was a truly memorable experience. I love the way Taraās music flows through the film.
With Olga Fitzroy @daisycoole.bsky.social and more!

Iām also thinking about the long 6-7 months of the edit with Alice Powell in the Glimmer Office at @broadwaycinema.bsky.social
The things that made us laugh and cry all made the cut

Iām chuckling AGAIN at @yrfatfriend.bsky.socialās vintage diet book collection
Aubreyās (unsettling to me) giant hand collection

knew I wanted (needed) to make a film about fatness.
I started the film when my daughter was 13. Being a parent of a teenager made me think deeply about the story I had learnt about my own fat body from the adults in my life.
The stories we are told about our bodies are so powerful

I often think a lot about audience or potential audiences when I make a film or start a project.
Making @yrfatfriendfilm.bsky.social was different. I was telling @yrfatfriend.bsky.socialās story, of course but I just needed, wanted and felt compelled to make the film.
The audience was me.

Maybe Iām reliving the muscle memory of when my previous films have gone out on TV.
Anthony Wall from BBC Arena once told me this story that in the days of 4 channels he would walk the streets and see the films heād commissioned playing on the tvs in peopleās living rooms

I am weirdly nervous about @yrfatfriendfilm.bsky.social going on tv. It feels like a full stop. Weāve been touring the film since it premiered in June 2023 at Tribeca
Logically I know that the film has been seen by many many people but a broadcast still feels like showing you inside my heart ā¤ļø

In lots of ways getting @yrfatfriendfilm.sky.social into cinemas was a way of making venue think about the seating they offer to their audiences.
We asked every cinema showing the film to measure & publish their seat size. Permenantly.
Seat size = access
So far over 120 venues have signed up šŗš
