If you’ve ever wanted to live through the Oregon Trail Game, you’re about to

I think a significant government shutdown is coming in March. It’s the biggest lever the Democrats have, if they’re courageous enough to use it. But I hate even writing these words because the real human suffering of a shutdown is often downplayed.

Like so many here, I deactivated my Twitter account today. I wasn’t using it, but I do not *in any way* want to support or be part of Elon Musk’s universe. I am going to miss out on some institutional, and corporate accounts, but frankly, their failure to abandon the platform speaks volumes.

Jurisdictions that must support voters who speak non-English languages need the underlying Census Bureau datasets, which can no longer be accessed from their official location (error 403). Thanks to the elections researchers for making copies!

Wait until the DOGE bros find out how many government programs are written in COBOL.

President’s Day is a Federal holiday. Anyone organizing anything for that day? We can’t legally strike, but we can March. Who can help organize? #Reist #Organize

Any political scientists want to speculate about possible effects if Musk gets his fingers into the U.S. EAC? #polisky

I am somewhat heartened by the fact that elections are run by the states, DC, and territories. More importantly, even within those, experts estimate that 8,000 to 10,000 jurisdictions actually conduct elections. I think that gives us *some* insulation against federal meddling.

I am so glad that news has found a home here.

I am shaken to my core. Science is being destroyed in real time. If the CDC goes offline, people will *die*. We’re abut to enter another dark age of human knowledge.
