Even established authoritarian regimes consider arresting defiant judges an extreme tactic—a serious escalation usually reserved for after one-party rule is firmly entrenched. Seeing a judge arrested in the US today should alarm everyone who values democratic governance. This cannot be allowed. 🧵

If you’re in or around Warren, Washington, or Saratoga county in NYS & you’ve been negatively affected by the Trump admin’s actions, tell us! We want to bring attention to how our communities are suffering because of their lawlessness & recklessness!

ICE is detaining international students, visa holders, and green card residents over their First Amendment-protected speech. If you’re in a state with a Democratic attorney general, urge them to push back on Trump’s destruction of due process & protect the right to dissent: bluestatedefiance.org/ice

“Cowardice is contagious — so is courage.” “That’s what we’ve been seeing month after month... Starting with some people demonstrating courage, and then other people looking around and saying I can do that, too. It’s in my power. I’m not just a victim of world events.” - @ezralevin.bsky.social

The Trump administration’s first 100 days in office have been a relentless barrage of actions that violate, threaten, or undermine human rights. To illustrate the breadth and depth of damage, HRW has compiled 100 harmful actions during these 100 days ⤵️

My latest for @liberalcurrents.com We need to stop listening to commentators who spent a decade being arrogantly wrong about the fascist threat www.liberalcurrents.com/trump-alarmi...

Stay loud stay visible stay brave

The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased.  Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power. Tyrants prey on people who feel unsafe and vulnerable.  But without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless.

I can’t wrap my head around how morally bankrupt she has to be to make targeting already vulnerable kids her focus while ignoring her constituents’ pleas for help as their rights, livelihoods, and vital services they rely on are stripped away.

With Trump defying the Supreme Court to keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia (along with hundreds of others) imprisoned in El Salvador, we find ourselves in a moral and constitutional crisis. Calls and emails to Congress aren’t sufficient to end these crises, but they are necessary.

About to write a doctoral thesis on the century of American politics that took place over Easter weekend of 2025 - the president posting falsified evidence to deny due process - the secretary of defense leaking classified information for a second time - a congressional rep posting a public meltdown

Over 3 million Americans rose up this weekend. Not with violence. Not with hate. But with voices. With purpose. With love for DEMOCRACY. This is not a red vs. blue fight. This is a human call for truth, dignity, and liberation from authoritarian rot. #DemocracyNeedsYou

🌧️ RAIN COULDN'T STOP US! Hundreds showed up today, despite the rain, to Honk-n-Wave and defend our democracy! Your patriotic spirit and dedication are inspiring. Thank you for standing strong! 🇺🇸 #KeepTheRepublic #HonkNWave #Democracy #Patriotism #IndivisibleADKSaratoga

Massive crowd in Saratoga Springs, New York today in the rain with the message. "keep the Republic that we fought for 250 years ago" organized by Indivisible ADK/Saratoga youtu.be/h8bA-Ganxqc?... @maddow.msnbc.com @indivisible.org

A little rain couldn’t stop Glens Falls from showing up yesterday!! 👏👏👏

WOW: Massive crowds in New York City right now for the 50501 National Day of Action against the Trump regime.

Last night was the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride to warn the Minutemen of approaching British troops. I want to take a moment to share an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence's grievances against King George III. Remind you of anyone?

"And once in a great while, someone will light a lantern—or even two—that will shine forth for democratic principles that are under siege, and set the world ablaze."

A grassroots-led campaign has hundreds of protests and events scheduled across the U.S. on Saturday. Organizers say the momentum built on resistance against the Trump administration has not slowed.

Happy 250th Anniversary of Lexington and Concord from the Supreme Court of the United States

250 years ago today America began its march toward independence at the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The battles marked “No Kings Day, Part I.” Today millions of Americans will take part in “No Kings Day, Part II.”

Tonight is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. May his memory remind us all to resist the tyranny forming in our government.

The Dallas ICE office is involved in a mass removal effort targeting nearly 200 people — many without removal orders — scheduled to be deported to El Salvador today. This is not just cruel – it is lawless. I refuse to stay quiet while families are being torn apart, and lives are being put at risk.

“It’s time for a comprehensive national civic uprising. It’s time for Americans in universities, law, business, nonprofits and the scientific community, and civil servants and beyond to form one coordinated mass movement.”

Upstate NYers: If you’re in or around Glens Falls or Saratoga Springs tomorrow, show up in honor of the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution & remind those in power that Americans stood against tyranny then & we’re ready to stand against it now.

This is a glimmer of hope I was not expecting. Well done, Senator Van Hollen.

NEW: The Fourth Circuit REJECTS the Trump admin's appeal of Judge Xinis's orders to "facilitate" Kilmar Abrego Garcia's release: "We shall not micromanage the efforts of a fine district judge attempting to implement the Supreme Court's recent decision." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The President of the United States is utterly out of control and possibly out of his mind, and only the Supreme Court of the United States can deliver the absolutely vicious permanent slapdown this moment requires. If that does not happen, the options for Americans appear to dwindle precipitously.

RIGHT NOW in NYC! @aaupcu.bsky.social @cuimcstandsup.bsky.social @higheredlabor.bsky.social @actioninhighered.bsky.social #DefendHigherEd #AcademicSky

The possibility of abduction by a sovereign and imprisonment abroad is one criterion that separates democracies from dictatorships. The Declaration of Independence called the British king tyrannical for transporting Americans, “beyond Seas to be tried for pretended Offenses.”

"This isn't a battle of your choosing. But it is the battle for which you will always be judged. This is the moment you must show the world and history which side of the Edmund Pettis Bridge you are standing on." - Stuart Stevens

This Trump crisis, it doesn't get better, it will only get worse if left unchecked. Those who have the power to stop him need to step up loudly & publicly. We don't need just democrats or republicans, we need all to step up for the good of the nation and future of its people. #3E

We’re not sure what separates the Trump admin from the “terrorists” it claims to be fighting. You watch whats happening and can’t even process it—what the hell is going on is all we can think. Our Constitution grants everyone within this country the same legal protections, regardless of citizenship.

We had the reporter on tonight; @maddow has the whistleblower

100% behind this, but can we demand the return of others sent to El Salvador, too? Still stunned we’re at a point where this needs to be said explicitly, but trafficking people, *including those who have committed crimes,* to foreign concentration camps is unconscionable in ANY circumstance.

Folks who are citizens of other countries and are considering travel to the United States for a vacation or work or whatever: I strongly advise against it. You will not have protection from the illegal actions of this administration. It's not worth it. Don't roll the dice by traveling here.

It shouldn’t have to take this realization for people to know what’s happening is wrong - and it hasn’t for many - but we need to make sure those around us who seem to have a stronger sense of self-preservation than empathy hear this message loud and clear.

He thinks deporting innocent people he doesn’t like is funny. Could be anyone.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

We are also at a political crisis, one most people are abdicating. Trump did this presser to shift that political (and legal) fight. And unless people figure that out, we will lose. Why are we talking about US citizens instead of due process proclamations of terrorism?

Trump is denying due process to foreign nationals here legally before ripping them from their families and deporting them. Do we really believe this regime will follow any sort of due process for American citizens before Trump tries to deport them? Call it what it is: fascism.

No one should be above the law, most especially the President. Ignoring a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return isn't just cruel; it's unconstitutional. They're saying the quiet part aloud — if they get away with it now, they'll do it to anyone.
