Conference begins with @jeevunsandher.bsky.social and @elliereeves.bsky.social reflecting on the past few months.

Ramadan Mubarak! Wishing all of your family a peaceful Ramadan.

The proposals by Midlands Connect for a new rail link will slash journey times between Loughborough and Coventry, create good jobs, and reduce our carbon emissions. As an East Midlands Mission Delivery Champion, I am very happy to support this.

These are the most dangerous times we have ever known. The last 80 years of peace was not the norm. It was founded upon sacrosanct borders and strong militaries.

Preserving peace means deterring Putin. And deterring Putin means mobilising our greater resources and converting them into fighting forces. This is why Keir Starmer has announced an uplift in the UK’s defence budget: so we can pay for the guns, tanks, and drones we need.

We can help to end extreme poverty despite cuts to overseas aid. By passing legislation to end the African debt crisis, freeing up billions to be spent on development without costing us a penny.

We can defeat Putin. We have the resolve and resources to defeat him. And that's why we must work with our allies to seize Russia's central bank reserves.

Winning wars is more about resources than tactics The side that has more resources & can convert them to fighting forces wins A century ago, politicians in my position failed to show we had the resources & resolve to win. That led to World War II (link jeevunsandher.substack.com/p/russias-wa...)

Our safety and security depends upon Putin losing. If he is able to show that he can redraw borders by force, that Europe is too weak to stand up to him, he will come back for more. We must show him we have the resolve and resources to defeat him.

Lovely pint at The Jam Garden in Loughborough. No. 12 down (and many more to go).

Democracy is in danger. People who cannot earn enough are losing faith. Climate change is making this worse. And Putin is threatening our security. To protect democracy, we need to raise living standards, reduce carbon emissions, and build our armed forces. (link at end) 1/4

FGM is a sickening crime. I welcome the Court’s decision to increase this offender’s sentence under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme & commend the work of the CPS in securing the first successful prosecution for conspiracy to commit FGM. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

Real wages are growing at their fastest rate since 2007 (excluding the pandemic). Good news but a lot more to do.

A lot done, a lot more to do. We promised two million extra NHS appointments within a year. We hit it seven months early.

Part of the rise in loneliness is due to there being fewer pubs. Having a pint, being with your mates, is a really important part of life.

This week, @kimleadbeatermp.bsky.social proposed an amendment to make her choice at the end of life bill stronger and safer. Here's how it works 👇

Parliament supports the principle of choice at the end of life. I do too. My colleagues on the Committee yesterday started working through the Terminally Ill Adults Bill line-by-line, to strengthen safeguards & make good law.

Our hospitals are crumbling, our nearest A&E has some of the worst waiting times in the country. My constituents in Loughborough are paying the price. This government is investing to rebuild our public services.

Economic growth *can* make us all better off. But that doesn't mean it *automatically* will. High-earners, capital, London, and the old gained a lot more from growth than the rest. So what happened and how to fix it? Find out in this 🧵and here: jeevunsandher.substack.com/p/whose-econ...

We are so close to ending extreme poverty. But we can't end poverty without solving the African debt crisis. Using English law, we can help end the debt crisis without spending a penny.

Nice day on the doors in Shepshed. The reception was much warmer than the weather.

Brilliant to be back at The Boat Inn for pint no. 11 of the Pub Tour. Caz and Carl helped the local community when the floods came last year. And a massive thanks to @avasantina.bsky.social from @politicsjoe.bsky.social for coming to see what it was all about.

Great to visit the Loughborough Urgent Treatment Centre and see the incredible work they do, helping patients and easing pressure on our A&Es and GPs Proud to have this excellent service in my constituency

The committee looking at my Terminally Ill Adults Bill will begin line-by-line scrutiny next week. This is vital to ensure it is as strong, safe & practical as possible. This week I have tabled amendments with input from the Government that do just that. www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Bond yields falling (because the Bank cut interest rates) Will keep saying this over and over: UK bond rates move due to lots of factors Financing constraint not the issue

It has been far too expensive to build nuclear power in the UK👇🏾 Making it easier and cheaper to build nuclear is what we need to stop emitting carbon

Q: How do we beat Reform? A: Create good non-graduate jobs for the people and places that are turning to Reform. These are the people and places that can't earn enough to live a decent life. That means ... (article at end of 🧵)

🔧"We have to create more good non-graduate jobs across the country if we want everyone to earn a decent wage." @jeevunsandher.bsky.social on how Labour can defeat Reform: labourlist.org/2025/02/news...
