Re-upping my write-up of the development of Musk and other MAGA politicians’ admiration of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele: bsky.app/profile/jeff...

Lessons from El Salvador revista.drclas.harvard.edu/lessons-from...

El Salvador has offered to incarcerate US citizens and deported migrants. In this short article, I outline the recent relationships between MAGA politicians in the US and El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele that made this possible. revista.drclas.harvard.edu/bukelismo-a-...

The drop in life expectancy in Gaza from the 70s to around 40 as reported in a new lancet study and visualized by @monachalabi.bsky.social

This was a big success from the Biden admin and the Dem majority in 2018-2019, and it meant that unaccompanied children facing deportation could have the assistance of a lawyer. Now that’s going up in smoke, and it will devastate both the kids and many of their lawyers, whose job was funded by this.

Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order. TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

I am very lucky to be joining UC Irvine as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology, Law & Society beginning this summer! Many thanks to the many, many folks who have helped me along the way.

Looks fascinating!

100% this...been saying this for almost 4 years now Our refusal to defend immigrants and our asylum/immigration policies was catastrophic Transformative leaders MOVE PUBLIC OPINION they don't constantly adjust to polling

New in #PDRJournal, I estimate the impact of teen union formation on #IPV victimisation in South America. Early union formation ⬆️ reported experiences of subtle forms of abuse such as psychological violence. For some, the risk of sexual abuse also ⬆️. doi.org/10.1111/padr...

Harris policy proposals had more support (even decent among Trump voters). And yet... www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/int...

Since 2022, an incredible 676,981 citizens of Venezuela have migrated through the Darién Gap's dangerous jungles. Assuming are about 30-32 million Venezuelan people, that is 1 out of every 47 Venezuelans. No armed conflict, no major natural disasters. These people are fleeing systematic misrule.

Uplifting this. We will undoubtedly be producing a similar version of this soon. The long story short; 1-2 million people here with some form of legal status will likely have their status stripped from them. Legal immigration will be heavily restricted and enforcement ramped up significantly.

i think that the people interested in recriminations and score settling right now aren’t seriously grappling with the magnitude of what happened and the implications for the rest of our lives. most of us will probably die living in the political order that will emerge out of this election.

I have an article in the Boston Globe with Matthew Blanton: "El Salvador’s migration success story doesn’t add up US policymakers should be more skeptical of President Nayib Bukele's claims that his approach to public security has slowed migration." www.bostonglobe.com/2024/08/01/o...

This article does a great job of getting the idea out there that "World society theory is more than a theory of isomorphism." Bravo to the authors! journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
