The Trump Administration has done it: their first _conventional_, Pinochet-style "disappearance," in which a whole human has disappeared off the face of the Earth, and no one has any idea where they are or if they're still alive. Even the Nazis kept records. This is the full-on vanishing of a life.

FT: Trump “has puzzled trade negotiators in Tokyo after complaining about a test where he claims a bowling ball is dropped on a car .. “.. Japan does not carry out such tests ..” @financialtimes.com www.ft.com/content/b545...

What a mess

abolish ICE

this guy is a world class asshole

Vance's Easter visit to Rome clogged its streets with a 40-vehicle entourage. He also demanded the Coliseum be closed so he and his family could tour it alone. Tourists who properly booked slots in advance got screwed. He's apparently the first to make that demand. Then he didn't bother to show up.

In a case like this, you cuff the suspect in the front. Want to know why they declined to do so? Because they knew this was a photo op. These people are truly sick.

Private back-channel pleas and even market panic do not chasten Trump. The U.S. economy, like the U.S. democracy, needs real leadership. Sooner or later, business leaders and Republicans must speak out — if not out of courage, at least due to naked self-interest. wapo.st/42P1Edc

What Catherine said - with this addendum: the institutions of the US economy depend on the institutions of US democracy. Both are being deliberately destroyed

New: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s orbit has become consumed with a leak investigation that is the purported reason for the firing of senior adviser Dan Caldwell but mired in controversy, per 5 people familiar @theguardian.com exclusive www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

There are 195 countries on earth.

“A Financial Times analysis of more than 350,000 posts on X related to the election, gathered since the snap poll was announced in March, revealed a network of co-ordinated accounts pushing content to boost Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and tarnish his counterpart, the Liberal’s Mark Carney.”

Again you can stop him from doing this or you can let him rule over you. There’s no third avenue where he just stops being a power-hungry racist on his own and you can ignore him

Missouri asshole and DC US Attorney Ed Martin has been writing letters to high profile scientific journals. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/25/h...

“With their savings, they paid for expensive and extremely difficult in vitro fertilization process to have their daughter, he said.“

The rumors are true: The proposed SAVE Act will make it harder, if not practically impossible, for millions of women to vote.

About to write a doctoral thesis on the century of American politics that took place over Easter weekend of 2025 - the president posting falsified evidence to deny due process - the secretary of defense leaking classified information for a second time - a congressional rep posting a public meltdown

(Bloomberg) - Insiders including Meta Platforms Inc.’s Mark Zuckerberg, Oracle Corp.’s Safra Catz and JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Jamie Dimon cashed out shares worth billions of dollars before President Donald Trump’s tariff announcements roiled markets. @bloomberg.com www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

To win a war they cannot avoid, Chief Justice Roberts and his allies must rediscover their belief in a simple notion: The American president is not above the law.

Vance keeps saying that Abrego Garcia already received due process when he was granted that “withholding of removal” status. But note Vance’s slippery trick: He is claiming this without acknowledging that the government has now deported him illegally, in violation of that very status.

Marjorie Taylor Greene openly laughed at questions submitted by her concerned constituents. In total, 3 people were arrested—including 2 attendees who were tasered by Acworth police.

But sure, meritocracy. Got it.

i don't doubt there are many, many political prisoners in Venezuela but the Venezuelans we sent to El Salvador were in the U.S. AS POLITICAL ASYLUM SEEKERS so what is actually going on here

Flashback to my own delightful Pete Hegseth texting experience

I care less about Signal chats and more about the blacksite offshore concentration camps we're sending random people to without any semblance of a trial, so I'll be interested to see if the national media can rub their bellies and pat their heads at the same time this week. Historically they can't.

🤷🏼‍♀️

This is astonishing. Like every other nominee in the health policy area, utterly unqualified, but in this case even worse. The nominee for surgeon General! Odds of the Republican Senate will still confirm her: 90%. lastcampaign.substack.com/p/trumps-sur...

In reporting this story, I came to understand that one or more states may be inclined to investigate. So if your prediction comes true, @normornstein.bsky.social, sometime later this year we may have a Surgeon General of the United States who (at least) loses her license(s) to practice medicine.

Are we are in the final chapter for Three Gin Pete? www.wsj.com/politics/nat...

“‘Any school that continues to disenroll (and refuses to re-enroll) students is voluntarily punishing students to align itself with the Trump administration’s agenda…Disenrolling students was already a blatant capitulation, and now it is a wholly inexcusable one.’” theintercept.com/2025/04/17/i...

Hegseth: Okay, that's the bombing plan for Yemen. Questions? Mom: DO YOU WANT HAM OR TURKEY FOR EASTER Hegseth: Mom this is the bombing chat not the Easter chat Mom: I TURNED ON THE CAPS AND CAN'T TURN THEM OFF HAHA Hegseth: Please, mom Waltz: 🦃🦃US 👊🔥 Mom: TURKEY IT IS!

Has to check, and yes, this actually happened. To call Hegseth JV would be slighting everything down to T-ball. Actually lower.

NEW from me: Some U.S. citizens have already been caught up in Trump's immigration dragnet. More will be. A side note: more reports of citizens detained by immigration officials emerged even as we prepped this story for publication. For @propublica.org www.propublica.org/article/more...

"Unlike the chat in which The Atlantic was included, the newly revealed one was created by Hegseth. Named “Defense | Team Huddle,” it included his wife and about a dozen other people.... He used his private phone, not his government one, to access the Signal chat." www.nytimes.com/2025/04/20/u...

Confirming Hegseth really was insanely reckless.

Sounds like Navarro is back in the oval.

Your friendly reminder that it is literally a federal felony punishable by up to five years in prison for the President, Vice President, or any employee of the White House to directly or indirectly ask the IRS to open an investigation into any specific taxpayer.

1. The Pentagon’s official statement on the NY story that revealed that Pete Hegseth had sent Yemen attack plans to his wife and brother prior to the attack. First, they aren’t denying it. Second, the NYT story never said the messages contained classified info — the story said “highly sensitive”

“You can’t say people are our most important product and then treat them like shit.” - Jim Sinegal, co-founder of Costco

Costco is a really popular subject for business-success case studies but I feel like business guys kinda lose interest when the upshot of the study is like "just operate with scrupulous integrity in all facets and levels of your business for four decades" and not some easy-to-fix gimmick

This is what a suspension of Habeas Corpus means. No due process. No courts. No redress. No rights. Trump uses Nazi language when he calls the groups he targets animals. He's eliminating their humanity. It's easy to kill someone who isn't quite human.

I miss having a president who didn’t use a holiday like Easter to demonize his political enemies with a bunch of childish slurs and nicknames.

Dismantling the one U.S. agency focused on older adults, people with disabilities is startlingly inefficient www.statnews.com/2025/04/17/a... via @statnews.com
