even if i force myself to just do my part, there's no guarantee that my teammates will do theirs. I want to trust them but they don't have anything usable to show after all this time and that makes me nervous. I know ranting about it online instead of talking to them doesn't help anything but ugh

i'm not fit to be the leader. not because it's a fatal flaw of mine or anything i just don't know wtf I'm doing and I don't have the guts to boss my team around when I'm so unfocused. but the more time passes, the more it becomes apparent that I'm gonna have to step up whether i like it or not.

You're right, some people here would rather blame the single-issue Gaza voters they made up in their heads than the D's for failing to offer any substantial change. Also, many Gen-Z voters were literal children when Trump was president, so the whole "we're not going back" message doesnt really work.

Also unrelated but I found this funny when I removed the last ć character in DeepL lol

By "providing context" I mean being able to literally provide it yourself, like in this example. Google translate and DeepL struggle when the text is imperfect and/or contains typos. ChatGPT is sometimes (and confidently) wrong as well, but in simple cases like this it is genuinely better.

Sorry for the big text, I just get kinda passionate about this topic in particular because better translation software could genuinely help people who lack access to resources in their native languages, including many people I know irl

tldr I donāt think google translate and others are currently better at translation than multilingual GPTs, unless you think that being worse is a positive because itās easier to tell or something. As a side note, the transformer architecture that gpts use was literally developed for translation.

If your issue is not with the tech itself, but with how these services are marketed and deployed by large tech corporations as human replacements, then I completely agree. I just don't like how potentially useful research is dismissed by people because tech bros can't shut up about AI for 2 seconds.

What you said is true, but does the intent matter if the end result is just, worse? Sounding like a person is kind of important in communication, and you shouldn't just blindly take what a GPT says as truth anyway, just like you shouldn't believe a random internet stranger or a different AI program.

Yes, that is how every machine-learning based translator works. It's true a machine can't "understand" or "guess", but I don't think arguing about the meaning of these words is constructive in this case. In the end, what makes these AIs both dangerous and useful is their convincing guessing ability.

To be fair, understanding natural language is what chatbots are literally trained to do. I generally wouldnāt trust them more than like, deepl or google translateās ai but being able to provide additional context can make them useful when a real human is unavailable.

Not for work, but I use it to proofread my text when I write in a language Iām not fluent in. āDoes this sound natural to a native speaker?ā that kinda thing. Itās wrong sometimes, but then again so am I so idk

I don't see how that changes anything, I lived surrounded by farms and had plenty of land to play around in, I would've rather had the ability to meet with my friends on the weekends, or go shopping, or get a part time job, or go to driving school, or anything else without having to beg my parents.

I grew up in a rural town in Texas and have no idea what you mean by self-reliance. I had to be driven by my parents to everywhere but school, we didn't have a single bus station. Years after graduation, many of my peers are still stuck at home, paying off their cars with jobs that pay jack shit.

I had this problem too, none of the included tips fit my ears (I have small ear canal) and I almost regretted buying them. I bought some comply foam tips and they fit so much better now. The downside is they get dirty fast

Itās useful when I have a very specific question that Siri couldnāt answer but I have to pay attention to something else, like if Iām driving. Also pretty useful for translation purposes, you can ask it to explain why it chose to use specific words/phrases and give it extra context if needed
